Success at an international competition of unmanned aircraft in the USA
A group of students from the SAE Collegiate Club at the WUT Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering won the first place at an international competition of unmanned aircraft – Aero Design 2010.
The competition took place on 30 April – 2 May 2010 in Fort North in Texas, the United States. The competition is organized annually by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International), which groups 90 thousand engineers from all over the world. The students’ task was to design and build an unmanned aircraft which could lift the biggest possible payload. The aircraft, with full load, must complete a circuit of the airport and land safely. The aircraft KIWI, constructed by our students, came first in particular classifications: for the best design and for the best performance and it had the third place for the biggest payload (15 kg), which gave it the first place in general classification.
