Success of students from the Power Engineering Academic Study Group of the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering
Students from the Power Engineering Academic Study Group took part in an international competition organised by General Electric: "Make Your Campus Greener". Their work, a proposal of a new way of providing heat to the Institute of Heat Engineering, has been chosen to the group of finalists – teams from European universities.
A group of students: Jakub Kurkiewicz, Paweł Mazgaj, Adam Rajewski, Łukasz Sznajder and Adam Dominiak, from January to April, prepared a preliminary design of a CHP installation with a gas-powered piston engine.
Apart from our students, the group of finalists also comprises one team from France and one team from Great Britain. The final decisions in the competition will be taken in the middle of August at a meeting in Budapest.
The competition design will be evaluated by a panel of experts from GE Energy according to the following criteria:
- Ecology: Will the proposal have a positive impact on the environment? To what extent will the proposal limit global warming? Will it conserve water or decrease energy consumption?
- Imagination: In what unique and innovative way does the proposal protect the environment?
- Feasibility: What is the budget and timescale of the proposal? What is the relation of benefits and costs?
The teams in the final will be invited to a ceremony in Budapest in August 2009, during which the prizes will be awarded. The winning team will receive a gold medal and 25000 Euro to realize the project.
