World Convention of Polish Engineers
An inspiration to organise the World Convention of Polish Engineers (WCPE) were the suggestions of the engineering community in Poland and abroad about the need for integration of these communities on the world scale, along with suggestions concerning promotion and use of the achievements of Polish engineers in various areas of science and technology and their applications in the economy.
System transformation in Poland and regaining sovereignty have created new conditions and opened new cooperation opportunities for Polish engineering communities in Poland and abroad. Their calls for the world-scale integration of engineering communities as well as dissemination, promotion and application of Polish engineering achievements in various fields of science and technology and their implementation in economy were an incentive to organize the World Convention of Polish Engineers. That idea was the grounds for signing an agreement on Convention organization between Professor Włodzimierz Kurnik, Rector of Warsaw University of Technology and Mr Andrzej Drzewiecki, representing the Council of Polish Engineers in North America, and then between Professor Włodzimierz Kurnik, Rector of Warsaw University of Technology and Ms Ewa Mańkiewicz-Cudny, President of the Federation of Engineering Associations NOT.
The World Convention of Polish Engineers is the continuation of engineering seminars “Poles Together’, organized by NOT since 1996 and many other initiatives of organizations of the Polish community abroad from Europe and North America, as well as the Association 'Polish Community' (Wspólnota Polska). The Convention will be an excellent forum for the presentation of most important scientific and economic issues of interest to Convention participants and an opportunity to establish contacts and cooperation, especially in the field of innovation and high-tech.
The Convention aims to define the possibilities of economic acceleration in Poland through:
- establishing the cooperation strategy for Polish engineering environments in Poland and abroad,
- transfer and implementation of modern technologies,
- creating opportunities to exchange experiences in the field of educating and retraining engineers, taking into account the practice and demands of the global economy, including English-medium education, especially at the graduate and postgraduate levels,
- wide economic cooperation initiated or executed by Polish engineering communities abroad,
- popularizing Polish technological solutions all over the world,
- establishing close ties among Polish and foreign universities as well as other academic, research and teaching institutions in the area of exchanging experiences, sharing scientific and research work, exchange of lecturers etc.; creating international teams for scientific and research work,
- creating a strategy, the aim of which is to support or create a Polish scientific and technical lobby abroad and increase the number of Polish professors and Ph.D. students at leading world universities,
- using the knowledge, experience and contacts of Polish engineers abroad, both those professionally active and retiring ones, for the benefit of Polish universities, scientific and research units, as well as the industry,
- establishing individual contacts.
