The first three places were taken by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Paris-Saclay University.

ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) is an international ranking of universities for various academic subjects. 55 subjects classified in the ranking were allocated to five areas: natural sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, life sciences and engineering. In total, the ranking covers over 1900 universities from 104 countries from the whole world.

The ranking is based on five indicators: research output, research influence measured with the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) index, international collaboration in relation to publications, number of articles in top journals and number of significant research awards.

The GRAS Ranking is a subject-based ranking drawn up by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. The organization also runs the Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities – ARWU).
