Aim of project
The aim of the project is creation and investigation of new kinds of joints of composite polymer structural elements produced using the pultrusion technology. They will be applied in girder beam bridges, especially footbridges. This research project consists of computer simulation (using FEM) and laboratory and field testing of mechanical, glued and glued- -mechanical joints. The model footbridge (two-square crosssection girders and planks on the deck) with the span 4,0 m will be designed and built too.

Computer analysis will be done using ANSYS, LS-DYNA and SOFiSTiK software. Experimental investigation will be devoted to:

Testing of samples of material to verify characteristics given by the producer;

Structural and fatigue testing of particular kinds of joints and the whole structure of bridge using destructive and nondestructive methods;

Monitoring of behavior of the above mentioned footbridge during exploitation in the natural environment to predict durability of structure.

Expected results
The expected results are:

Defining and systematizing material and structural parameters influencing behavior of diff erent kinds of joints in composite polymer bridges;

Creation of FEM models for structural analysis of the above mentioned bridges;

Creation of proposal of standards devoted to joints of composite polymer structural elements;

Depending on results of the investigation, creation of a new kind of joints or indication of future directions of research.
