aim of project
The aim of the project is to prepare numerical simulation methods which will be used to design human nerve system stimulation devices. Advanced optimization methods for separable areas, as well as a technique for nerve excitation propagation and modeling of eddy currents in low conducting media will be used. Excitation of the nerve system (in particular, the vagus nerve) is a known and widely applied therapy for such diseases as: drug resistant epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, deep depressions and strong headaches. The design process is based on several self-developed software applications which allow to solve problems of stimulation modeling. The reverse problem is defined as search for parameters of stimulation devices (coil shape, location, power source parameters) that will produce the strongest stimulation effect.

expected results
Methodology, algorithms and software created for simulation of magnetic and electric stimulation of the human nerve system. Optimization tools for better stimulation devices design.
