Aim of project
The main aim of the project is research on perceptual video quality evaluation methods in order to determine their metrological characteristics and to suggest improvements. The examinations concern compressed material with the most important standards — MPEG-2 and AVC/H264.The project includes construction of a laboratory station for video quality evaluation with methods recommended by the International Telecommunication Union: both continuous (SSCQE, DSCQS) and punctual (ACR, DCR) ones.
Expected results
A unique laboratory station which enables to display test sequences in several configurations, measurement data acquisition, data processing and analysis with statistic tools;
Establishing sources of measurement data dispersion and working out methods of decreasing distortions;
Methods of quality parameter determination and estimation of uncertainty;
Suggestions on international recommendations on video quality evaluation.
An additional result is going to be a collection of observations which widen the knowledge in both Human Visual System and coding parameters influence on compression quality.
