Aim of project
The aim of the project is to investigate, both experimentally and numerically, the possibility of a rotating detonation initiation and propagation process in axial-symmetric research chamber. At the previous stage of the project, tests for various fuel-oxygen mixtures with different mixture compositions and for different initial pressures were conducted. Geometrical parameters: width, length of the channel and diameter of the chamber were selected experimentally to obtain initiation and propagation of rotating detonation. Additionally, numerical computations were conducted. The 2D and 3D computations were connected with injection and mixing of the reactants. It is planned to perform 2D and 3D computations of rotating detonation propagation, which should improve understanding of the main process features. At the final stage of the research a new experimental stand is planned which will allow to measure the thrust of the model jet engine with rotating detonation.
Expected results
Development of chamber geometry which will support propagation of continuously rotating detonation, evaluation of detonation wave parameters (pressure and velocity), measurements of thrust of an engine using this process. Also, calculation of detonation wave parameters which are not possible to measure on an experimental test stand.
