Aim of project
The scientific aim of the project is to study phenomena and influence of technological factors of the innovative method of impulse resistance welding on the properties of the obtained coatings and/or welds. This technology is not wellknown not only in Poland but in the world as well. A small number of publications on it but also great application potential of the method encourage to employ the method in a wide scope of applications, such as: wielding, surface modifi cation by applying layers of metal foils, metal or cermet powders and regeneration. The core of the presented method is applying layers, usually in the form of thin metal foils or powders, by point welding to the metal mould. The process of welding shows great similarity to point resistance welding and electrical energy is conducted in the form of repetitive short current impulses.

A key research issue will be search for optimal parameters for material groups and types of metal products for which the suggested technology could be successfully used for welding, applying layers or local repairs. An important issue, from the point of view of specifi c applications, will also be the determination of properties of the obtained welds, layers or regenerated places.

Expected results

Within the suggested project, it is planned to publish chosen research results in one of reviewed technical journals and at national and international conferences.

Elaboration of the subject in the form of a fi nal report on the research will also be a form of an off er for the industry in order to encourage production companies to cooperate on new technologies and know-how.

Within the project it is planned to design and build a technological stand for applying layers or impulse resistance welding with the device MICROWELDER GM-3450.

Part of the obtained results will be included in a habilitation dissertation prepared by one of the authors.
