Aim of project
General aim of the project are numerical studies of railway vehicle dynamics and stability, numerical and experimental studies of infrastructure elements such as track structure and transitions straight track-circularly curved track as well as studies on phenomena and principles governing sustainable development of transport.
Besides, the aim is an improvement or elaboration of new methods and tools enablig studies of the earlier mentioned. In principle the questions undertaken by the project refer to:

  • stability of railway vehicle motion in curves with especial regard to bogie vehicles,
  • dynamics of railway vehicles in transition curves while going above critical velocity,
  • modelling and analysis of track different structures in view of durability and MTBF (mean time between failures),
  • forming different types of passage from straight to circularly curved track in tram tracks in view of passanger comfort but also of vehicle-track interactions,
  • searching for proper shape of railway transition curves with regard to advanced vehicle model, vehicle-track and vehicle-passenger dynamical interacions, and optimization methods,
  • sustainable development of transport, in particular in Poland as the EU memeber.

Expected results
Realisation of the project and achievement of its general and detailed aims will enable, among others, to:

  • extend general and thorough knowledge in rail vehicle dynamics domain, especially the questions of stability in curves as well as dynamics and interactions in transition curves,
  • effectively determine stability areas for bogie vehicles in case of complete range of curve radius, i.e. from small to infinitely large (straight track) ones,
  • compare durability and exploitation features of conventional and reinforced BGT track structures with the recommendation, or not, to apply the unconventional (BGT) track structure,
  • compare different types of passage from straight to circularly curved track in tram tracks with regard to typical methods of their evaluation and the methods based on dynamics of advenced vehicle model and with recommendations to apply particular solutuions,
  • evaluate different shapes of railway transition curves, and eventually recommed change in their shape, from point of view of dynamical properties based on complete vehicle model what is not the case in traditional criteria of transition curves evaluation,
  • present charcteristics of decoupling or prospects of decoupling appearance in Poland as well as evaluation of that phenomenon influence on sustainable development of transport in Poland, as the EU member.
