The Faculty of Environmental Engineering offers a graduate programme in Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology. Student enrolment at the Faculty is approximately 450 (350 on full-time studies) annually and the total number of students is about 2000.
The Faculty employs an academic staff of 130, including 16 professors, 9 associate professors and 105 assistant professors. These are supported by 98 technical and administrative staff.
The Faculty of Environmental Engineering library contains specialised materials in 5 languages and subscribes to a wide range of publications.
The Faculty is divided into three institutes:
Each institute is divided into several divisions dealing with particular areas of teaching and research.
The Faculty offers the following fields of study:
Since 1999 education at the Faculty follows a flexible three-level system comprising studies leading towards: engineer, master and doctor's degrees.
Undergraduate studies leading to the degree of inżynier equivalent to a BSc (Bachelor of Engineering) degree last 3.5 years. Students are educated in the following specialisations:
Graduate studies leading to an MSc degree last 5 years. The first 3 years are common for MSc and BSc courses. Students are educated in the following specialities:
The last semester is devoted to preparation and defence of the master's dissertation. After graduation students are granted the degree of magister inżynier equivalent to an MSc degree in environmental engineering.
Postgraduate studies leading towards PhD degree last 3 years. After the defence of their doctoral thesis students are awarded the degree of doktor nauk technicznych equivalent to a PhD degree.
Until the sixth semester studies are conducted jointly by the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering and the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, after which students choose a specialisation.
The Faculty also offers the following:
Extra-mural studies
In these studies, which last 5 years (10 semesters), students specialise in Sanitation Systems, prepare a thesis and obtain the degree of inżynier equivalent to a BSc (Bachelor of Engineering) degree.
Evening Engineering courses
These studies, initiated in 1996, last 4 years (8 semesters). Students specialise in Municipal Engineering, prepare a dissertation and obtain the degree of inżynier equivalent to a BSc (Bachelor of Engineering) degree.
The Institute of Environmental Engineering Systems comprises six divisions. Its main research areas are as follows:
The Institute of Heating and Ventilation comprises three divisions. Its main research areas are as follows:
The Institute of Water Supply and Hydraulic Engineering comprises three divisions. Its main research areas are the following:
The Faculty cooperates with many foreign scientific institutes and universities. Regular exchanges of scientists and joint research projects are conducted with the following:
The Faculty also participates in numerous European research and educational programmes like TEMPUS, INCO-COPERNICUS, EUREKA, EU Framework V Research Programme, PHARE and others, being the Coordinator or Partner. Students and staff members often travel abroad for short term professional training.
