On the 11th of June, in the Senate Hall of Warsaw University of Technology, there was a meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Warsaw’s universities led by the rector of Warsaw University of Life Sciences, prof. Tomasz Borecki.
The team led by prof. Wojciech Pietkiewicz, Ph.D., D.Sc., was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS 2008 for the solution: ”Technology of producing polypropylene membranes” (4 and 5 June 2008, the Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw).

The Siemens Research Award for 2007 was given to prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk Ph.D., D.Sc., for "Research on new generation telecommunications networks and systems" and to Marek Pawełczyk, Ph.D,, D.Sc., for his habilitation dissertation "Application of digital signal processing, optimal control and identification of systems for active noise reduction – designing, analysis and implementation in active seat headrest and phone".
The University Election Committee informs that during the election meeting of the Electors’ College on the 26th of March 2008, prof. Włodzimierz KURNIK, Ph.D., D.Sc., was elected Rector of Warsaw University of Technology for the 2008-2012 term of office.

On the 12th of January 2008 in Kensington, California died professor Antoni Kazimierz Oppenheim. Professor Oppenheim was born on the 11th of August 1915 in Warsaw. He studied at Warsaw University of Technology.
