Success of our students
The fourteenth edition of the BraveCamp Entrepreneurship Academy brought two awards for students of the Warsaw University of Technology. First place in the business track went to Jan Mikołajczyk from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, while the Special Award was received by Miłosz Miśkiewicz from the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science. The competition was organised by the University of Warsaw Incubator.
Snow’s Eye – a drone for special missions
The project developed by Jan Mikołajczyk focuses on building a system for autonomous measurements of snow cover thickness in polar regions. The Snow’s Eye project is based on an autonomous drone designed to operate in extreme conditions and an acoustic measurement system.
"Thanks to the combination of these two technologies, we are able to obtain an inexpensive, accurate and safe measurement system, and the data collected with its help can significantly contribute to improving the accuracy of our models concerning changes in ocean levels. In May this year, with financial support from the University of Warsaw, we were able to test the entire system in target operating conditions on Svalbard, near the northernmost cities in the world. We have managed to establish cooperation with many national and international research institutions conducting studies in polar regions; with their support we plan to quickly implement our solution and include it in the wide range of measurement instruments used by research institutes worldwide," says Jan Mikołajczyk.
Our student is also working on further implementations of this technology. Similar solutions may be applied in underwater measurements and even in space missions.
"We are intensively working on exploring these new applications because they allow us to reach a much wider audience," Jan emphasizes. "Participation in BraveCamp itself helped me significantly, mainly in terms of how to present the project. For someone mainly interested in the technical side of such a system, it can be difficult to quickly convey the idea to a person unfamiliar with the technical specifications. I believe that acquiring pitching skills alone is a huge benefit from BraveCamp, not to mention the contacts made with both experts and other participants. It is also worth mentioning that I carry out this project, as well as my other projects, within the Student Research Group of Research Aviation Measurement and Control Systems operating at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering. I encourage everyone to learn about our activities on our website and on our social media."
Sedno – a platform that eliminates information noise
Miłosz Miśkiewicz is the creator of Sedno, a web platform that helps users quickly access reliable and essential news by filtering out information noise. At a time when content overload is one of the greatest challenges of the modern world, Sedno offers a simple and effective way to follow events without browsing multiple websites. The application aggregates articles from trusted sources, removes duplicates, and creates concise, objective summaries to help users save time while retaining a complete picture of the situation.
"The project's mission is to enter the market with a solution that provides clear, concise and reliable news that gets straight to the heart of the problem. The application was created from the need to increase efficiency in acquiring knowledge, with thought for people who want to stay up-to-date but don't want to waste time filtering excess content – whether they are journalists, everyday users, students curious about the world, or professionals such as analysts or investors. Sedno combines the innovative use of artificial intelligence with user-friendly simplicity to deliver the highest quality information in an intuitive and accessible way," explains Miłosz Miśkiewicz. "Currently the project is in the phase of intensive development. The process of raising funds to create the platform has been completed, consultations are underway with one of the largest law firms to ensure full compliance with European law, and work on the beta version will begin in the coming months."
In Miłosz's opinion, participation in the competition was an extremely valuable experience. The greatest value of the trip was the opportunity to meet many inspiring people and their ideas.
"Working among like-minded people was a great pleasure, and being among such outstanding participants was also an honour. The mentors' comments also proved extremely valuable, especially regarding the form of presentation and pitching, which allowed me to better understand how to present the idea in the best possible way," adds Miłosz. "A few days after the gala, despite tiredness from an intense week, I am accompanied primarily by joy and pride from receiving the special award and the jury's recognition. This success gives me additional motivation to continue working on and developing the project, and the competition itself will remain a source of inspiration and positive energy for me. By the way, I am looking for a person involved in broadly understood design and graphics, as well as UX/UI, who would like to join the project."
