Official opening of the Centre for Credible Artificial Intelligence at the Warsaw University of Technology
On 7 October 2025, the official opening of the Centre for Credible Artificial Intelligence (CWSI) – a research unit whose mission is to develop methods enabling the creation of understandable, verifiable, and controllable AI systems – took place in the Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology. The event gathered representatives of the scientific community, strategic partners, friends of the university, and guests from Poland and abroad.
The inauguration ceremony featured speeches from distinguished figures supporting the Centre’s activities, including Prof. Mariusz Malinowski, Vice-Rector for Research at the Warsaw University of Technology; Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć, President of the Foundation for Polish Science; Prof. Wojciech Samek, representative of the Centre’s strategic partner – the Fraunhofer Society; and Prof. Przemysław Biecek, Director of the Centre for Credible Artificial Intelligence, who presented the main objectives of the CWSI research agenda.
The official part was complemented by a discussion panel entitled "The Potential for Creating Innovation Around Credible, Explainable, and Controllable AI – Perspectives from Science, Business, and Public Administration", which featured: Borys Stokalski, President of the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications; Prof. Zbigniew Brzózka, Head of the Department of Medical Biotechnology; and Pamela Krzypkowska, Director at the Ministry of Digital Affairs.
After the official programme, guests were invited to the Centre's new space for a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, networking conversations, and a joint tour of the laboratory. The meeting provided an opportunity to establish initial contacts between researchers, industry partners, and representatives of public institutions.
The Centre has been officially operating since 1 June this year – and very intensively from the very beginning. Proof of this is the first international Credible AI Workshop dedicated to explainable artificial intelligence, which is currently taking place in the new CWSI space and is entirely organised by its team – it will run until 10 October. The event takes place at the Centre's premises at 4 Rektorska Street.
The workshop aims primarily to strengthen cooperation with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) – the Centre's strategic partner in the field of explainable and safe artificial intelligence. The workshop focuses on the most important challenges of modern artificial intelligence: controlling multimodal models, using synthetic data, AI system red-teaming, and analysing model security and explainability.
This is a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with one of Europe’s leading research institutes. Researchers from the Poznań University of Technology, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the Jagiellonian University have been invited to participate. The collaborative work and discussions are expected to result in new ideas for scientific publications, research projects, and long-term partnerships.
