We now know the results of the latest THE Rankings by Subject 2026. The Warsaw University of Technology has been classified in five subject areas. In the field of Computer Science, we ranked as the second-best university in Poland.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026 (THE WUR by Subject) compare universities worldwide across eleven broad subject areas. The assessment is based on five criteria: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook.
WUT’s position in the THE WUR by Subject 2026 globally
In this year’s edition, the Warsaw University of Technology reaffirmed its visibility in international subject rankings, securing classification in five academic areas.
Our highest-rated field remains Computer Science, where WUT was placed in the 601–800 band worldwide. The University was also ranked in the 801–1000 band in Business and Economics, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. In Engineering, WUT was classified in the 1001–1250 band.
Compared with the 2025 edition, improvements were recorded in Physical Sciences and Business and Economics, while Computer Science maintained its position. At the same time, Engineering saw a decline relative to last year’s results.
In Social Sciences, the Warsaw University of Technology appeared in the ranking for the first time, thereby expanding its presence in the THE WUR by Subject listings.
WUT’s position in the THE WUR by Subject 2026 in the Polish context
The current edition of the THE WUR by Subject ranking is particularly favourable for WUT in the field of Computer Science. We were classified among the top universities in the country (joint second place alongside AGH University of Kraków and the Silesian University of Technology), outperforming 80% of the Polish institutions included in the subject ranking. The only institution to achieve a higher position was the University of Warsaw (301–400).
WUT achieved the third position in Poland (jointly with AGH), following the University of Warsaw (401–500) and Gdańsk University of Technology, Jagiellonian University, and the Silesian University of Technology (all 601–800) in the field of Physical Sciences. In this category, our university competed among a group of 20 Polish institutions and nearly 1,500 institutions worldwide.
Against the background of Polish technical universities in the field of Engineering, WUT is placed in the same band (1001–1250) as the Kraków, Łódź, Lublin, Poznań and Wrocław Universities of Technology. The leaders in this classification are AGH University of Kraków and Gdańsk University of Technology (601–800). Just behind them are the Opole University of Technology and the Silesian University of Technology, both ranked in the 801–1000 band.
In the field of Business and Economics, the Warsaw University of Technology competed among 17 institutions from Poland but did not reach the same ranking bands as some other technical universities. The national leader in this area was the Silesian University of Technology (401–500). AGH University of Kraków and Gdańsk University of Technology also achieved strong results, both placed in the 601–800 band.
In the field of Social Sciences, the Warsaw University of Technology is one of the few technical universities from Poland to appear in the ranking. We were placed in the 801–1000 band, which represents the highest position among Polish technical universities (jointly with AGH University of Kraków). The top positions were taken by academically oriented institutions – Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Jagiellonian University, and the University of Warsaw – all ranked in the 501–600 band.
