A replica of the Boeing 737 MAX cockpit is being built at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. It will be used in classes with students and will be used for the implementation of diploma theses.

– The simulator will provide us with access to state-of-the-art software modeling the operation of on-board systems of passenger aircraft, and will provide excellent hands-on experience – says Maciej Zasuwa, PhD – the initiator and coordinator of work on the simulator, head of Department of Automation and Aeronautical Systems at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. This is extremely important in the education of future engineers, who will be creating such systems.

The created replica will be used by students of aviation and astronautics, on subjects such as: "On-board Systems", "Simulators" and "Simulation of Aviation Systems" and their English counterparts. The model will also be available to people preparing diploma theses related to the construction of simulators and the functioning of the B737 class aircraft.

– In order to teach students at the highest possible level, modern scientific aids are indispensable – emphasizes Maciej Zasuwa, PhD – Owing to that, we can supplement the theory with practical classes – showing how to implement the acquired knowledge in the case of a real flight simulator, which can be used for pilot training.

The construction of the simulator is another stage of cooperation between the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology and Boeing, which sponsors many didactic projects for students.

– Last year, the idea was conceived to build a simulator of the most popular passenger aircraft – the Boeing 737 – explains Maciej Zasuwa, PhD – as a result, the most modern version – MAX became the choice.

The plans are ambitious – the simulator is to be made by the end of 2023. Construction – from the moment of starting construction works – will take up to 5 months. The whole process will involve a team from the Warsaw University of Technology, as well as external companies.

– This will be the first flight simulator of such a large passenger aircraft at a Polish civil university – emphasizes, Maciej Zasuwa, PhD.
