Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Petrochemistry have developed a concept for the expansion of the Municipal Zoological Garden in Płock. New facilities with a leisure zone would be built on the slope of the Vistula River escarpment.

– We wanted to integrate architectural objects into the landscape of the Płock escarpment without limiting the green areas, for example by creating a green roof on the building – say students of the WUT Branch in Płock.

The project involves the construction of six pavilions with a tropical forest, desert, and marine coast arranged inside; they are to be populated by animals naturally inhabiting these areas.

– The unusual shape of the buildings makes it possible to obtain diverse layouts of animal enclosures, which in turn allows for optimal visual effects for visitors – the authors of the project explain.

The team is a group of eight students taking the Master of Science in Civil Engineering: Eng. Łukasz Chabowski, Eng. Ernest Dolatowski, Eng. Kinga Górecka, Eng. Dominik Iwański, Eng. Klaudia Janczewska, Eng. Maciej Malecki, Eng. Łukasz Skorupa and Eng. Krystian Sobków. The visualisation project was carried out by Eng. Łukasz Skorupa. The team was led by Dr Eng. Piotr Gryszpanowicz.

The student vision is the first stage of the Płock zoo’s expansion plans. The next phases include the preparation of the construction project and the implementation of the investment. For now, it is difficult to point to specific dates. Everything will depend on the financial capabilities of the zoo.
