The two universities aim to strengthen their cooperation by combining their expertise and experience even more closely than before. This integration of their potential is intended to lay the foundations for future federation and to build the position of a regional leader in the field of Engineering – Medicine – Society. The agreement was signed by WUT Rector Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba and MUW Rector Prof. Rafał Krenke.
The agreement provides for the coordination of activities and decision-making in the areas of research, education, infrastructure, joint grants, and internationalisation. To facilitate this process, the universities plan to establish a WUT–MUW Strategic Council as well as operational teams responsible for coordinating the directions of cooperation, identifying organisational barriers, and preparing integration plans.
The universities also intend to develop maps of their key resources and a model for selected digital processes, including course registration and knowledge repositories. The Warsaw University of Technology and the Medical University of Warsaw aim to build a shared identity, supported by jointly organised events and consistent communication of their activities.
The universities will carry out joint research programmes and develop joint initiatives within their doctoral schools. They also plan to cooperate closely in sharing best practices in teaching, particularly in programmes dedicated to their top-performing students.
All these activities are intended to strengthen WUT’s and MUW’s ability to jointly plan and implement projects, make effective use of resources, and manage joint initiatives. In turn, this is expected to increase the visibility of both universities as a recognisable Engineering – Medicine – Society ecosystem capable of competing for international partnerships, talent, and participation in prestigious research initiatives.
“This agreement marks a new quality in WUT–MUW cooperation,” said WUT Rector Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba during the meeting at which the agreement was signed. “It is intended to be the beginning of us truly following a common path. I dream that, at the end of this journey, a federation of the Warsaw University of Technology and the Medical University of Warsaw will emerge, whose mission will be to serve society through the joint pursuit of cutting-edge research and outstanding education. Our cooperation is already producing excellent results, so it is worth developing and strengthening it further,” Prof. Zaremba emphasised.
“We should see WUT–MUW cooperation not as a collection of individual projects, but as a lasting ecosystem in which we are able to identify clinical problems, build interdisciplinary teams, make use of the infrastructure of both universities, prepare national and international projects, develop ideas from their inception through implementation validation and all the way to commercialisation,” said MUW Rector Prof. Rafał Krenke in his address. “I hope that this agreement will be a commitment for all of us to continue moving from project-based cooperation towards systemic cooperation, based on shared priorities, teams, resources, infrastructure, and responsibility for results.”
The agreement has been concluded for a period of five years. It was signed during the WUT–MUW Forum, held on 11 September 2026 at the Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies (CEZAMAT). The event also featured presentations of research projects and teams from the Warsaw University of Technology, as well as opportunities for further development of cooperation between WUT and MUW.
