Ladies and Gentlemen,

The academic year 2025/2026 is exceptional. During this period, we have begun – and will continue – to celebrate the Jubilee Year marking the 200th anniversary of the Warsaw University of Technology. We commemorate it as successors to the ideas and legacy of the Preparatory School for the Polytechnic Institute, founded on the initiative of Stanisław Staszic in 1826.

A myriad of academic events, meetings, conferences, symposia, exhibitions, and concerts by our artistic groups will mark the jubilee. Not only will we present our remarkable legacy, but also – and perhaps above all – we will showcase our achievements and reveal plans for the future. I hope, or indeed I dare say – already with convincing evidence – that the graduates, friends and supporters of the Warsaw University of Technology will join us as well. I also hope that many people will join us – those who recognise and appreciate the fact that for the past 200 years, Warsaw has been the city where the technical workforce has been educated, and successive generations of engineers have begun their professional journeys. It is here in Warsaw that successive generations of elites are shaped, paving the way for our country’s economic development.

I had the honour to commence the celebrations of the Jubilee on 1 October 2025, during the inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year. Symbolically, on the same day, a locomotive decorated with graphics announcing nationwide the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Warsaw University of Technology set off on its journey. We have already celebrated the Warsaw University of Technology Day in the National Philharmonic with the magnificent performance by the WUT Academic Choir, and later, at the Main Building of WUT during a ceremonial session of the Senate and an extraordinary concert of Great Music in the Small Hall. The coming weeks and months will bring more events and opportunities for meetings.

I hope all jubilee events will reflect both your and my respect and admiration for the generations of our predecessors and that they will become moments of our deepest connection with the University. I trust that your experience of the celebrations will be truly unforgettable. Let us celebrate together in this exceptional year.
