TechOcean is a powerful team of engineers prepared to tackle tough jobs. In these difficult times of struggle with the coronavirus outbreak, providing safety to medical staff is one such job. Set up by alumni of the Warsaw University of Technology, the business has come to aid.

At TechOcean, they are printing protective visors for face shields to be delivered to hospital staff. They are using their own printers and filament provided by 3D Reaktor, a 3D printing supplies store.

“We are printing without stopping and we currently have about 40 visors ready to be shipped to Lublin, to Jan Boży Independent Public Provincial Hospital,” explains Błażej Żyliński, a co-owner of TechOcean and a graduate from the WUT Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering. “It takes us 1.5 to 2 hours to print one visor, depending on the printer settings.”

A free template provided by the Czech company Prusa Research is used for production. “It is a good one, validated and optimized for printing time,” says Błażej Żyliński.

Protective visor sheets are needed in addition to a 3D printed element to make a face shield complete. Visor sheet cutting for TechOcean is done by Bartłomiej Wałpuski, a doctoral student of the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Mechatronics.
