CEZAMAT in the consortium of a project awarded funding by the NCBR
A consortium composed of Screenmed sp. z o.o. (leader) and the Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies (CEZAMAT) at the Warsaw University of Technology has been named among the winners of the STEP A – Biotechnologie competition. The StepDiag project titled “Functionalised magnetocatalytic nanoparticles in lab on foil systems and digital microfluidics for the detection of medical biomarkers” has received funding of 9,992,666.43 PLN.
The project involves developing and testing innovative, functionalised magnetocatalytic nanoparticles as a key component of modern in vitro diagnostic systems in the point‑of‑care testing (POCT) category. The nanoparticles to be developed will feature triple functionality, combining magnetic and catalytic properties with high selectivity for chosen medical biomarkers.
As part of the project, the nanoparticle technology will be integrated with disposable lab‑on‑foil microanalytical cartridges and with advanced microfluidic systems, including digital microfluidics (DMF). The target solution is intended to enable rapid, sensitive and low‑cost detection of biomarkers in various biological materials, such as blood, saliva and urine, outside laboratory conditions.
The project will be carried out in three research and development stages, covering the synthesis and validation of the nanoparticles, the design of the test cartridges, and the development of the readers and analytical software.
About the competition
The STEP A – Biotechnologie competition is aimed at developing critical technologies and strengthening value chains in the biotechnology sector. It provides support for research and development projects that introduce innovative or breakthrough solutions with significant economic potential to the internal market of the European Union. The call is organised by Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR).
