Our university has gained a new place for meetings and relaxation. The Community Pavilion has been erected on the BIS campus area, between the buildings of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology and the Faculty of Civil Engineering. This wooden structure was conceived and built by students and academic staff from the Faculty of Architecture as part of the Stawiamy_ initiative.

The project is based on a clear and meaningful idea: to create a space for dialogue between people, nature, and architecture. This concept perfectly reflects the spirit of a technical university while also serving as part of the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The pavilion’s architecture is based on a circular plan, symbolizing equality, the cyclical nature of life, and the continuity of relationships. The twelve columns supporting the roof represent the twelve months of the year and the cycle of life. Constructed from natural wood, the pavilion highlights the fragility and interdependence of all elements, emphasizing that no part exists independently of the others.

At the centre of the pavilion are three planters containing aquatic and wetland vegetation, inspired by a pre-war design by Alina Scholtz, a pioneer of Polish landscape architecture. Water, light, and plants serve as symbolic pillars of the space, referring to the forces of nature, the source of life, and the cycle of renewal.

The Community Pavilion is the third structure created within the Stawiamy_ initiative, an educational programme based on the principle of learning by doing. Nearly a year ago, the Community Pavilion - like its two predecessors, the Freedom Pavilion and the Future Pavilion - was installed in the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw. Now, following the path of its predecessors, it has found a new location while retaining its original purpose: to serve as a place for meetings, dialogue, cooperation, and integration.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the students and faculty members from the Faculty of Architecture who designed and built the pavilion, as well as numerous distinguished guests, including: Professor Jan Słyk, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Marianna Otmianowska, PhD, Director of the Royal Łazienki Museum, Professor Krzysztof Koszewski, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Professor Tomasz Starecki, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, Professor Andrzej Garbacz, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, representatives of other WUT faculties, staff from university offices and departments involved in the project, as well as sponsors and project partners.

The design, construction, maintenance, relocation, and installation of the pavilion on the Warsaw University of Technology campus would not have been possible without the support, openness, and goodwill of many individuals, institutions, and companies. The opening ceremony provided an opportunity to acknowledge this valuable contribution and express gratitude.
