Cooperation in the field of nuclear power engineering
The company Bechtel Poland and the Warsaw University of Technology have signed a cooperation agreement on launching a career development programme in the field of nuclear power engineering. The aim of the programme is to, among other things, educate specialists who will support the development of the Polish nuclear power sector, including the project of construction and maintenance of the first Polish nuclear power plant in the Choczewo community in the pomorskie region.
The American company and the Polish university will combine practical experience with academic knowledge, which will help prepare students to develop their career in the field of nuclear power. Within the cooperation Bechtel will help the Warsaw University of Technology develop a curriculum connected with nuclear power, using the knowledge and experience of the American company in this field. Bechtel specialists will also support the training for academic staff of our University so that they can later pass the knowledge to their students.
– We are happy to be able to support WUT in education of future generations of nuclear power experts – says Leszek Hołda, President of Bechtel Poland. – With the scientists and students of the Warsaw University of Technology we will inspire future generations of professionals in the nuclear sector. We hope that thanks to this initiative we will meet many talented individuals who will join our local team of specialists, and in the long run will help create a European innovations centre in the field of nuclear power in Poland.
– In the whole world, cooperation of Bechtel and the scientific and engineering community is a key factor in developing and maintaining professional staff in the field of nuclear power – points out Ahmet Tokpinar, general director of the business line of Bechtel Nuclear Power. – Bechtel has 70 years of experience in the field. Together with the Warsaw University of Technology we will provide students with an opportunity to grow in the field of innovation happening now in the area of nuclear power.
From 1959 until the early 1990s, the Warsaw University of Technology educated many specialists in the field of nuclear power. In 2006 we once again launched a study programme in this area and since then we have been educating Polish specialists in this field.
– We cooperate with leading businesses of this sector and with many research organisations and we are very happy that we are now joined by a company which has many years of extensive experience in nuclear projects – says Professor Adam Kisiel, Rector’s Proxy for nuclear power engineering. – I am certain that the cooperation of the University and Bechtel will enable the development of Polish nuclear power industry and provide it with perfectly prepared staff.
As WUT’s partner, Bechtel will also support the organisation of local internships. The company and the Warsaw University of Technology are planning to develop and implement grant programmes. They will also organise competitions for scientific and project work, workshops, research and experiments, as well as conduct training for research staff.
