Educational mission in the USA. A discussion panel with the participation of Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Mariusz Malinowski

From 9 to 12 January 2026, representatives of the Warsaw University of Technology participated in an educational mission in the United States, organised by the Capital City of Warsaw Office in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, the Warsaw Tourism Organisation, and the Polish Youth Association based in New York. The visit was an opportunity to meet with the Polish diaspora, hold talks about cooperation, and promote our University.

The mission was attended by the Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, as well as the authorities of Warsaw’s largest public universities: the University of Warsaw, the Warsaw University of Technology, the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, and the Medical University of Warsaw, as well as representatives of the Capital City of Warsaw Office and the Warsaw Tourism Organisation. Our University was represented by Prof. Mariusz Malinowski – Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Robert Zalewski – Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, and Grzegorz Robak – Director of the Centre for International Cooperation.

Members of the mission participated in a meeting at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, attended by Consul General Mateusz Sakowicz, Consuls Przemysław Postolski and Wiktor Cichecki, as well as students of Polish community schools and their parents. During the meeting, materials for international candidates were presented. This was an opportunity to showcase the new promotional film of the Warsaw University of Technology. Subsequently, the university authorities spoke about their institutions and their offerings from the perspective of prospective students. The presentations about the Warsaw University of Technology were delivered by Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Mariusz Malinowski, who also took part in a discussion panel. Questions from participants concerning student affairs and internationalisation were answered by Prof. Robert Zalewski and Grzegorz Robak. After the meeting, a question-and-answer session was organised with the participation of young people interested in studying in Warsaw and their parents. The mission programme also included participation in the Polish Youth Ball and a meeting with representatives of the Polish diaspora community at Felician University in New Jersey. Each of the meetings was attended by approximately 100 people.

On the final day of the visit, the Warsaw University of Technology delegation met with the authorities of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). A discussion with the participation of NJIT Vice Provost for Research Prof. Atam Dhawan and deans was devoted to the areas of research activity of both universities. The next part of the meeting, with the participation of Vice Provosts for Student Affairs Prof. Sotirios Ziavras and Prof. Laurents Simon, and Marieta Chemishanova – Executive Director, Office of Global Initiatives, concerned cooperation in the area of student and staff exchange and joint educational programmes. The Warsaw University of Technology delegation also paid a visit to the university's Maker Space.

The Warsaw University of Technology's participation in the educational mission in the USA enabled the establishment of contacts with schools and Polish diaspora communities as well as youth organisations in the USA. Representatives of Warsaw universities had the opportunity to exchange experiences regarding student recruitment, scientific research, education, and university internationalisation. Talks with representatives of the Capital City of Warsaw Office concerned support for university initiatives by Warsaw authorities and possible joint activities.
