A doctoral candidate from the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography of the Warsaw University of Technology, Paweł Czernic, MSc, took the first place in CLGE Young Surveyors Contest 2024 in the Bachelor and Master’s Degree Category. The award ceremony was held on 25 September 2024 during the INTERGEO conference in Stuttgart.
The jury selected and awarded three papers in each of the two categories – a joint category for BA, BSc and MSc theses and the category of doctoral dissertations. The diploma thesis of Paweł Czernic, MSc, awarded in the first category, entitled "Pedestrian Tracking in global reference system from CCTV cameras using Computer Vision and Deep Learning" talks about advanced monitoring of pedestrians using innovative vision technologies and deep learning. Thanks to his innovative approach, the author combined the CCTV system with AI technology to develop an innovative solution for pedestrian traffic tracking in a global reference system.
- I am happy that my diploma thesis was recognised and got the first place in a Europe-wide competition. I must admit that there was big competition and other theses presented really interesting issues. Now when I start my education in a doctoral school, I hope to develop the methodology presented in my Master’s thesis and make it useful in the context of Smart City solutions - says Paweł Czernic, MSc.
