Absolute Edge Student Research Group wins at the hackathon

Students from the Absolute Edge Student Research Group took first place in the Artificial Intelligence category at HackYeah 2026. The hackathon was held in Kraków on the first weekend of October. The event brought together more than 3,000 participants, and teams had exactly 24 hours to complete their challenges.

AI ERP Solutions, the project developed by our students, consists of AI agents for legacy ERP systems such as Subiekt GT, which is used by many Polish wholesalers.

"Systems of this kind store sales, inventory and invoice data, but offer no recommendations, so someone has to compile answers to questions such as ‘what should we reorder?’ or ‘who has not paid?’ manually in Excel. Only 8.4% of companies in Poland use AI, compared with an EU average of 20%," explains Piotr Piwowarczyk of the WUT Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, a member of Absolute Edge. "Our solution connects to the ERP system a company already uses through the MCP standard, without any data migration. The agents perform tasks in the system just as a person would. Code calculates amounts and deadlines, AI prepares a draft, and a person approves it, so nothing is sent automatically. In the demo, the ‘Windykator’ (Debt Collector) agent prepared draft reminders for the fictional wholesaler’s five largest debtors in six seconds—covering 30 invoices worth PLN 281,850—with model usage costing PLN 0.07."

Interestingly, our team developed solutions to challenges in several categories: Defence, Smart City, Huawei (HarmonyOS) and AI. The AI project advanced to the final and won. Participants did not know the tasks in advance; they built their solutions from scratch on site.

The winning project was based on a business idea by Nikodem Rudziński (online creator @szhakal) and Mikołaj Kopeć. During the hackathon, the team developed the technology and visual layers, as well as the AI agents.

The team at HackYeah comprised Absolute Edge Student Research Group members Piotr Piwowarczyk and Michał Szajner from the WUT Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, and Stanisław Ludwicki and Tomasz Życki from the WUT Faculty of Mechatronics, as well as Nikodem Rudziński and Mikołaj Kopeć, who are not affiliated with WUT and whose idea inspired the project. The team worked without rigidly assigned roles: from choosing the challenge to implementing the solution, everyone worked together and supported one another.

"This was our first major hackathon and we really enjoyed it. The organisation was excellent, especially the partner village, where companies such as Autodesk, Goldman Sachs and Huawei were recruiting. It was a great format: choose a challenge, develop an idea, work on it for 24 hours and present it to a jury," recalls Piotr Piwowarczyk. "The mentors were very helpful, both technically and in terms of implementation. In the final, we had five minutes for the pitch and five minutes for questions. Both parts went well, but we performed strongest in the Q&A, when the jury recognised that the project made sense."

The team is planning "definitely more hackathons!". As our student adds, they are "a great way to bring the group together and spend time as a team—and you can win something along the way".
