New Centre of Excellence at WUT brings engineering and medicine together

HealthTEC brings engineering and medicine together

HealthTEC brings engineering and medicine together

The development of innovative medical technologies and highly qualified professionals capable of addressing the challenges of modern medicine and public health, ultimately improving quality of life and advancing therapies, diagnostic methods and prevention – this is the mission behind the establishment of the Centre of Excellence Technologies for Society Health (HealthTEC).

The new unit at our university focuses on interdisciplinary research, services, information, training and promotional activities in the field of innovative health technologies and related areas. The Warsaw University of Technology has many years of experience and a strong track record in researching, designing and applying engineering solutions in medicine. It also has highly qualified academic staff and advanced research infrastructure. This makes WUT a natural environment for interdisciplinary research addressing health and well-being in the broadest sense. The University's potential in this field is considerable, encompassing 97 research teams across 16 WUT organisational units. Until now, however, this potential has remained dispersed. The establishment of the HealthTEC Centre of Excellence is intended to bring these resources together.

"We want to mobilise researchers and break down barriers between faculties and disciplines in order to strengthen Warsaw University of Technology's position as a leading research, innovation and education centre in Poland, recognised internationally for its work on advanced medical technologies for health," says Professor Wojciech Święszkowski, Director of the HealthTEC Centre of Excellence.

The Centre focuses its activities on four key areas: research, education, innovation and technology transfer, and cooperation and societal impact.

HealthTEC is intended to serve as:

  • A platform for integrating research teams from different WUT organisational units around key research areas. The teams will conduct world-class research together, sharing knowledge and infrastructure.
  • A space for cooperation between scientists, medical professionals and entrepreneurs, supporting the development and implementation of breakthrough solutions in diagnostics, therapy and prevention.
  • A place for developing research talent, supporting student research activities and early-career researchers while building expertise in interdisciplinary research and technology transfer.
  • An incubator of new ideas and talent, fostering scientific excellence and a new generation of medical technologies designed to benefit individuals and society.

HealthTEC's key research areas include next-generation personalised and precision medicine, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, next-generation diagnostics and health monitoring, biorobotics, bioinformatics and bioelectronics, as well as public health, longevity research and ageing.

"HealthTEC is an open initiative," says Professor Wojciech Święszkowski. "We bring people, expertise and infrastructure together. We work together regularly, sharing knowledge and experience. By joining forces, we will be better positioned to secure major research projects and attract international partners. This is how we are building Warsaw University of Technology's strong position in the field of health technologies."
