PW researchers in the World’s TOP 2% Scientists 2026

The World’s TOP 2% Scientists ranking lists the world’s most influential researchers, whose publications are among those most frequently cited by other authors

The World’s TOP 2% Scientists ranking lists the world’s most influential researchers, whose publications are among those most frequently cited by other authors

Eighty-eight representatives of Warsaw University of Technology have been included in this year’s World’s TOP 2% Scientists ranking, five more than last year. Compiled by Stanford University in cooperation with Elsevier, the ranking recognises researchers whose work and publications have a significant impact on the development of science worldwide.

The World’s TOP 2% Scientists ranking comprises two lists. The first covers researchers’ entire careers, while the second is based on bibliometric data for the most recent calendar year (2025). The career-long list includes 76 WUT researchers, ten of whom were not listed in last year’s edition. The single-year list includes 45 researchers, including 11 new PW representatives. Together, the two lists feature 88 individuals, as some appear on both.

Warsaw University of Technology researchers represent a wide range of fields. The largest group is assigned to Engineering (30), followed by Enabling & Strategic Technologies (21), Information & Communication Technologies and Physics & Astronomy (11 each), and Chemistry (10). The ranking also includes researchers publishing in Clinical Medicine (2), Biomedical Research (1), and Earth & Environmental Sciences (1).

Across Poland, the career-long TOP 2% list includes 1,582 researchers from 220 institutions. The single-year ranking includes 1,617 scientists from 232 Polish institutions.

The ranking is based on bibliometric indicators including citation counts, the h-index and the co-authorship-adjusted Schreiber index (hm-index). It also considers a researcher’s position in publications, for example as first or last author. Results across disciplines are compared using the c-score (composite indicator), which combines information on academic output and scientific impact. The ranking covers 20 fields and 174 subfields.

The full ranking is available on the Elsevier website.
