Second edition of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” programme
IDUB 2 Awards Ceremony. Representatives of the ten programme-winning universities with Marcin Kulasek, Minister of Science and Higher Education.
Warsaw University of Technology among the winners
Ten universities have been selected to benefit from the opportunities offered by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB) programme between 2027 and 2032. The Warsaw University of Technology is among them, having secured second place in the ranking.
Our University also participated in the first edition of the programme. This time, an international panel of experts chaired by Professor Peter Maassen, a specialist in higher education research and President of the European Association for Institutional Research, evaluated both the activities of the ten universities that had previously received funding and those of institutions applying for the second edition. The aim was to identify universities with the greatest potential for research and teaching excellence.
The final ranking comprises ten universities that will receive a 10% increase in their annual state subsidy over the coming years. This additional funding will enable them to launch and implement initiatives supporting their comprehensive development. The programme's beneficiaries will be able to enhance the quality of their research and education, strengthen their institutional potential and compete more effectively with leading universities in Europe and around the world. The additional resources will allow universities to invest even more ambitiously in research excellence. This represents an investment not only in the development of individual institutions but also in the competitiveness of Poland's entire higher education and research system.
“I am extremely pleased to learn that the Warsaw University of Technology has been selected as one of the winners of the second competition under the IDUB programme,” said Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology, following the announcement of the results. “I believe that we made excellent use of the opportunities offered by the first competition, while the development strategy for the Warsaw University of Technology that we presented in our IDUB 2 application demonstrated the potential of our University. Both these achievements were recognised by the international panel of experts, resulting in today's decision. I would like to thank everyone involved in implementing the IDUB projects and preparing our development plans for IDUB 2. This is a great success for all of us – the entire Warsaw University of Technology community.”
