Students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering create a digital twin
Members of the Żelbetnik Student Research Group are working on creating a digital "twin" of the building that houses the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology. The aim of the grant obtained is to learn and then apply the knowledge gained from BIM technology in the assessment of the technical condition of the existing building. The supervisors of the Żelbetnik Student Research Group are Maria Włodarczyk, PhD. and Paweł Chudzik, MSc.
The topic of the project carried out by the Żelbetnik Student Research Group is "Implementation of BIM technology in the process of assessing the technical condition of buildings". The aim of the grant, and at the same time the task of the team members, is to create a digital 3D BIM geometric model in Autodesk Revit of the Faculty of Civil Engineering building based on archival documentation and to create an analytical model for selected structural elements of this building. The work carried out will help in assessing the technical condition of the existing building.
Eight people are participating in the project – all of them are members of the Żelbetnik research group and represent the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Currently, the students have consolidated their knowledge of various types of building structures and currently used prefabrication systems, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. They have familiarised themselves with the structural layout of the building which is the subject of their work. The students are in the first, basic part of a certified, commercial training in BIM software – Autodesk Revit, in which they create a digital BIM spatial model of the existing structure, based on the available archive documentation from the 1970s.
The work is funded by a rector's grant from IDUB funds. The grant is scheduled to end in June 2025.
