Aleksandra Jamróz from the Smart City Research Association, with the team of PJATK Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, took the second place in the competition organized by Abu Dhabi Digital Authority.

In the Open Data ADDATHON, teams from all over the world received data bases on the basis of which they were supposed to come up with solutions that could improve the quality of life of Abu Zabi inhabitants, support the local business or the government. The WUT representative was invited to join the team of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, which decided to run in the competition with their idea of an app that promotes human- and environment-friendly public transport.

— I was inspired by the words of the former mayor of Bogota, who said that a developed city is not a city where the poor drive cars, but a city where the rich use public transport — says Aleksandra Jamróz, student of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, who was recruited to the team because of her passion for the concept of a smart city

It was Aleksandra’s task to, among others, diagnose the situation in Abu Zabi (on the basis of the data provided), show what solutions used in smart cities are missing in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, as well as suggest specific solutions.

Students decided to develop a project which would use databases and artificial intelligence to analyse the system of stops and fares. The solution should make it easier for commuters to take an informed decision by presenting the level of efficiency and profitability of various means of transport.

The full presentation of the awarded concept may be seen on the organiser’s website.
