The long May weekend was very busy for the WUT SiMRacing team. The students made an appearance at two events over that couple of days and had an opportunity to test their motorcycle on a full-size racing circuit for the first time.

The budding constructors entered the first round of the Slovak Championship on Slovakia Ring (Alpe Adria Vintage series) and they also joined the line-up of a race accompanying the Bennetts British Superbikes Championship on the Oulton Park Race Circuit, the UK. They finished their Slovakia challenge in the second and in the third place in separate races at Class 125SP/Moto3. Both successful performances were also to the credit of Kamil Barcik, a two‑time Polish Cup winner, who rode the student-built motorcycle.

Participation in the above events was made possible with the support provided under the “The Best of the Best! 3.0” Programme by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The first steps leading to this recent success were set already in March 2017, when a team of seven SiMR students in collaboration with a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw started to work on a motorbike for the Moto Student racing event. However, that project did not reach completion despite the team’s efforts, which you can learn more about in a related article of the Research – Innovations – Technology series. Luckily, this year has seen the achievement of what did not work out in 2018.

The team of motorcycle builders is planning to enter two other races soon; this time, it will be the Polish Cup on the Poznań Racing Circuit and the first Moto Engineering Italy event.
