This year, unlike any other year, the WUT Career Services Office and the participants of the program summed up the second edition of the Mentoring Program at the Warsaw University of Technology remotely.

Since January, 11 Mentors and 17 Mentees met regularly as part of the comprehensive model. The development of the meetings was adjusted primarily to the needs and professional goals of the students. However, among the many duos there was also space for job shadowing, consultation of student projects and discussions about common interests.

The virtual summary meeting provided an opportunity for joint reflection on the development of the Mentoring Program with the use of coaching tools and methods, including “Change Cards”.

Thanks to my participation in the Mentoring Program, I have learned a lot both about the professional life and the specifics of working in a given industry from an experienced Mentor. In addition to that, now I know much more about managing time, tasks and group work as well as the art of presentation. In this way I have gained extremely valuable experience and more self-confidence, which will definitely prove useful to me in the future. I believe that the Mentoring Program is a great opportunity to get help with writing your CV and obtain valuable advice on recruitment processes — that is how Maria Gąsowska, a biotechnology student at the Faculty of Chemistry, has assessed her participation in the second edition of the program.

The initiative itself is widely appreciated by the participating employers. The role of Mentors is played by people with at least several years of professional experience in engineering industries, often graduates of the Warsaw University of Technology, as well as those working in managerial positions and as team leaders.

The Mentoring Program is one of the programs in which the employer can get involved and actively influence the preparation of the students to enter the labor market. Showing students how to implement the theoretical knowledge they have acquired has an impact on the speed of future promotion after they enter the labor market. It is a win-win situation and each participant will certainly notice the satisfaction that comes from participating in this undertaking. In the case of the company I manage, it was the first step towards establishing broader cooperation with the Warsaw University of Technology. Each meeting with both Mentees and the organizers is a great opportunity to exchange insights and implement new projects. I strongly encourage both students and employers to participate in the next editions, comments Marcin Jeziorski, the president of TBX, a graduate of WUT Faculty of Transport who participated in the 1st and 2nd edition as a Mentor.

The meeting ended with summaries and declarations of renewed participation in the program and continuation of the established relations. The next edition of the Mentoring Program will take place at the beginning of the next calendar year. More details will soon be available on the website of the WUT Career Services Office.
