About 10 000 universities from all over the world are qualified to the ranking. 75 are from Poland.  In this comparison, WUT took 436th place.  Beyond WUT, among all Polish Universities are University of Warsaw (classified at 349^th place) and Jagiellonian University (at 387th place).

Webometrics takes into consideration the number of citation listed in the Google Scholar.  The "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.

CSIC is among the first basic research organisations in Europe. The CSIC consisted in 2006 of 126 centres and institutes distributed throughout Spain.
