Research and innovation 

• An innovative composite material, which may be used in aviation, wind power, automotive industry, and even in medicine and sporting goods, is being developed by Kamil Dydek, MSc – a doctoral student from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology and his team.
• Paweł Jung, PhD, from the Faculty of Physics is co-author of a publication in ”Nature Physics”.
• The Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography is the initiator and leader of the Network of Scientific Geospatial Analyses.
• More durable and cheaper roads? It is possible and research results confirm it. Our researchers from the Faculty of Civil Engineering participated in the project.
• Eco-pea coal is not ecological – this is the main finding of the research conducted by the team led by Professor Artur Badyda from the Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering. 
• The TV series BBC America uses technology invented and developed by a team connected with the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology.
• International project MOGLiS coordinated by Professor Marek Marcinek from the Faculty of Chemistry aims at developing flexible, inexpensive and long-lasting electricity sources.
• Starbucks Poland and EcoBean – a start-up stemming from the Faculty of Chemistry is working on straws made of coffee grounds.

Awards and prizes

• Warsaw University of Technology representatives did great in Poland’s Academic Championships in Alpine Skiing. Golden medals were won by Zofia Zdort and Antoni Szczepanik.
• Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture, Adam Wodzyński, MSc in Arch, received an award in the competition of the Polish Association “Green Roofs”.
• Our doctoral students (Piotr Person, Olga Czeranowska-Panufnik, Władysława Kijewska and Aleksander Sojka) won a building design competition for development of post-factory areas in the city of Nachod in the Czech Republic.
• Projects of two teams connected with the Faculty of Architecture were distinguished in the competition Detroit Waterfront District. The concept of Joanna Cieślikowska, Sylwia Darewicz, Weronika Majchrowicz and Aleksandra Wtulich took the third place, and the project of Marta Podrażka and Michał Skowroński made it to the final.
• Ewelina Zaremba, who a few years ago studied aerospace engineering at WUT, created from scratch the 3D Printing Student Research Group and led it for a year, was among the winners of the third edition of the competition ”25 under 25”, which distinguishes ambitious people under 25.   

WUT life 

• We saw the ENHANCE consortium opening conference, Warsaw University of Technology is member of. It was the first public event for employees, students, and doctoral students of the universities comprising the consortium.
• In our Branch in Płock, the Central Laboratory of Mechanics and Civil Engineering was opened. The investment is aimed at increasing the research potential and at making R&D undertakings more marketable.
• Our scientists: Professor Lech Łobocki (Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering) and Paweł Skowroński, PhD, (Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering) were appointed to the State Board for Environmental Protection.
