WUT Racing successes on Formula Student circuits

The 2026 season will go down in the history of the WUT Racing Student Research Group as the team’s most successful and rewarding to date. Its new WUT-7 racing car made an impressive debut at three Formula Student competitions in the Czech Republic, Austria and Poland.

WUT Racing’s first test of the 2026 season came at Formula Student Czech Republic, where the team took third place in Autocross. Its next appearance, at Formula Student Austria, brought two fifth-place finishes: in Engineering Design and Acceleration. The team achieved its greatest success, however, at Formula Student Poland, finishing second in the Overall classification.

At Formula Student Poland, the team reached the podium in four events:

1^st place in Autocross, a timed run on a winding course that tests the car’s dynamics and handling precision;
2^nd place in Business Plan Presentation for the project’s business presentation;
3^rd place in Engineering Design for design solutions assessed by judges from the international automotive industry;
3^rd place in Endurance, the 22-kilometre main race that tests the car’s reliability.

The Autocross victory held particular significance for the team. It was WUT Racing’s first win in a dynamic event in the Student Research Group’s entire history.

"For the team, it is undoubtedly an incredible feeling finally to deliver a result we can be proud of. This is our first victory in a dynamic event—not only across the three competition series this season, but in the team’s entire history," says Maks, the team’s lead Autocross driver.

This year’s successes followed extensive work on WUT-7, the team’s latest and most advanced racing car. The students spent many months preparing it, combining design and simulation with workshop work and track testing. One important objective was to reduce the car’s weight. By using carbon-fibre wheels and reducing the weight of individual components, the team made it 20 kg lighter than last year’s car. WUT-7 has an internal-combustion powertrain with an 88 hp Honda CBR 600RR PC40 engine, an electronic gear-shifting system and a monocoque built using lap-joint technology.

"This year’s season has shown that WUT Racing strengthens its position in European Formula Student competition with every successive appearance. We do not, however, see trophies as the finish line, but as a starting point for further development," says Jakub Pacocha of WUT Racing.

What comes next?

Further challenges already await the WUT Racing team. The students will analyse the data collected this year, recruit new members and plan technical changes. They will draw on the experience gained at this year’s competitions to develop new solutions and their next car.

"We are ending this year’s season with a sense of a job well done, but above all with experience that will form the foundation for our continued development," the team concludes.
