Daria Rutkowska, MSc, from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering received the Best Student Presentation Award at the international conference "International Conference for Young Scientists on Biorefinery Technologies and Products BTechPro2026", held on May 6–7, 2026, in Sigulda, Latvia.

The award-winning presentation, titled “From Biomass to Fire Safety: Thermo-Mechanically Modified Nettle in Sustainable Flame Retardant Systems for PA12,” focused on the use of modified nettle in sustainable flame-retardant systems for polymer materials.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in the BTechPro! conference, which was an incredibly valuable experience for me both scientifically and personally," says our doctoral student. "The conference offered an excellent platform for inspiring discussions, the exchange of experiences, and connecting with many ambitious and dedicated researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds. Participating in the event allowed me to broaden my knowledge, gain a wider perspective on my research, and find new inspiration for my further scientific development".

The research results presented at the conference were obtained as part of the LIDER13/0095/2022 project “Innovative Use of Lignocellulosic Material as a Component of the Flame-Retardant System of Polymer Products for the Electrical Industry and Electromobility (BioFIRE)”, led by Kamila Sałasińska, PhD, associate professor. The project is funded by the National Centre for Research and Development.
