WUT in the 2026 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS)
The results of the latest edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) have been announced. It is one of the world’s most prestigious university rankings, assessing institutions across 57 academic subjects grouped into five fields: natural sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, life sciences and engineering. Universities are assessed on several criteria, including the quality of publications, citations, international co-authorship and academic awards.
In 2026, the ranking included 1,962 universities from nearly 100 countries and territories. Poland is represented by 32 institutions, including seven technical universities.
In the 2026 GRAS, Warsaw University of Technology was ranked in four academic subjects, one more than in the previous edition. We maintained our global positions in three of them and returned to the Mechanical Engineering ranking.
WUT’s highest-ranked subject is Metallurgical Engineering, which placed in the 101–150 band globally and ranked second in Poland, behind AGH University of Krakow.
Instruments Science & Technology also achieved a strong result, ranking in the 201–300 band globally and 2nd–5th in Poland, jointly with AGH University of Krakow, Opole University of Technology and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.
Mechanical Engineering is ranked in the 301–400 band globally and is among the national leaders, ranking 1st–3rd in Poland, jointly with Gdansk University of Technology and Opole University of Technology.
The fourth WUT subject included in the ranking is Physics, which placed in the 401–500 band globally and 4th–5th in Poland, jointly with Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun.
