WUT in the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects GRAS 2024
Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) is an international ranking of universities in scientific disciplines (this year 55 disciplines) in five areas: natural sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, life sciences, and technical and engineering sciences.
In this year’s edition of GRAS, the Warsaw University of Technology was classified in the following rankings:
- Physics: 401-500 (last year’s edition: 301-400). Other Polish universities: AGH University of Krakow (151-200), Warsaw University (201-300), Jagiellonian University (301-400).
- Mechanical engineering: 301-400 (last year’s edition did not rank our University). Other Polish universities: Wrocław University of Technology (101-150), Opole University of Technology (201-300).
- Instruments Science & Technology: 201-300 (last year’s edition did not rank our University). Other Polish universities: AGH and PG (151-200).
- Metallurgical Engineering: 151-200 (last year’s edition did not rank our University). Other Polish universities: AGH: 51-75.
This year’s edition ranks over 1900 universities (over 5000 were considered) from 96 countries and dependent territories.
The ranking is based on the following indicators:
- International Academic Award Laureates, Laureates – number of scientists who are laureates of at least one of 46 selected international scientific awards
- Highly Cited Researchers, HCR – number of scientists with significant impact on the discipline, nominated by Clarivate based on publications and citations databases
- Chief Editors of International Academic Journals, Editor – number of scientists who are chief editors of international journals listed in SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded), SSCI (Social Science Citation Index), AHCI (Arts and Humanities Citation Index)
- International Academic Organization Leadership, Leadership – number of scientists who hold high positions in key international scientific organisations
- Top Journal Papers, TJ – number of articles published in significant journals
- International Academic Awards, Award – total number of academics who received significant awards in a given discipline since 1991
- Influential Journal Publications, Q1 – number of articles in most important journals
- Category Normalized Citation Impact, CNCI – relation of citations of articles of a given institution to the average citations of articles in the same category, year and type of publication
- International collaboration, IC – relation of the number of articles in international collaboration to the total number of articles in a given institution
Data for the ranking are derived from sources external to the University (database of publications, citations, lists of international academic award laureates, results of opinion polls among scientists conducted by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy).
GRAS ranking, organised in various forms since 2009, is a collection of thematic rankings developed by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, an organization responsible for the Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities – ARWU).
