Warsaw University of Technology in the 2026 Shanghai Ranking

In addition to our University, six other Polish universities were included in the ranking. The highest-ranked was the University of Warsaw (401–500), followed by Jagiellonian University (501–600) and AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków (701–800).

The highest-ranked universities in Europe are the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom (4^th place), the University of Oxford (7^th), and Paris-Saclay University in France (13^th). Globally, the 2026 ARWU was dominated by American universities, with Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) taking the top three places.

The Shanghai Ranking is a list of the 1,000 best universities in the world. ARWU uses six indicators: the number of alumni and staff who have received Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (10% and 20% weighting, respectively), the number of articles published in Nature and Science (20%), the number of Highly Cited Researchers selected by Clarivate (20%), the number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index – Expanded and the Social Sciences Citation Index of Web of Science (20%), and the per capita performance of the university (10%).

Each year, ARWU ranks more than 2,500 institutions, from which a list of the top 1,000 is published. Precise positions in the ranking (from 1 to 100) are assigned only to the very top universities; the remaining institutions are grouped into ranges and listed alphabetically within each range.
