Warsaw University of Technology has researchers working on a range of scientific topics which are explored in different areas and on different scale. Often the outcome of these helps with development of new technologies or everyday products to come into being.
Here we would like to present the diversity of topics which are of interest to WUT’s researchers.

Malaria is one of the most frequent infectious diseases. Fighting against one of its variants is the purpose of an international research consortium PvSTATEM. WUT scientists have joined the work of the consortium.

The first serious chapter of the story opened in 2017, when a team was established to build a motorcycle for the MotoStudent competition. After six years of development, the WUT SiMR Racing Technology machine changed a lot, its creators gained experience and they may be proud of their successes. Today, their aim is to construct an electric motorbike - for the next edition of the MotoStudent competition, of course.

17 September 2023, 16.55 – we write this date down in our university calendar and tag it #spacewow. It was then when the successful flight of a rocket with a hybrid drive happened in the history of the Warsaw University of Technology. Twardowsky – as the machine is called – is the work of the Student Space Association.

An innovative system for pulmonary rehabilitation won the national level of the international technological competition organised by the James Dyson Foundation. Lensless holographic microscopy opens up completely new possibilities of imaging live cells. In the project NaNoLens it will be used by Professor Maciej Trusiak from the Faculty of Mechatronics of the Warsaw University of Technology. For his research he was awarded the ERC Starting Grant.

Another important step forward in 2D materials research. Working in an international team of researchers, Jakub Sitek, PhD, from the PW Faculty of Physics, developed a new method which opens up the way to mass production of 2D materials based devices. The results of the team’s research were published in "ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces".

A scientific article authored by researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry was published in "Chemical Communications" from the first decile of journals (200 points). The article presents research on a solution for removal of toxic caesium from aqueous solutions.

The Warsaw University of Technology has been developing the technology of carbonate fuel cells for years. Another step in WUT scientists’ research is the development of a co-electrolyser for production of high quality synthetic gas.

Gabriel Wlazłowski, PhD, a university professor from the Faculty of Physics, utilized the capabilities of the LUMI supercomputer for conducting advanced research in the field of quantum mechanics. Our researcher has recently completed the project titled "Turbulent Dynamics in Superfluid Fermi Systems", conducted as part of the competition for pilot computing grants, which are implemented using the infrastructure of the most powerful European supercomputer.

The project by Michal Karelus and Michal Niedzielczyk from the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering consists of an inflatable rescue buoy and an ejection system. Its important advantage is that providing assistance does not require direct contact with the victim.

This is one of the most notable space projects of recent months. JUICE is an unmanned spacecraft designed to provide information about Jupiter and its moons. The project involves Polish companies, universities and institutions, including the Warsaw University of Technology.

It is nanocrystalline, fireproof and has high entropy. Thanks to this it may be used, for example, in nuclear power engineering or space industry. Such alloy is studied by an international research team, which includes a researcher from the Warsaw University of Technology.
