2nd edition of the Summer School of Nuclear Energy at WUT has concluded

On August 3–7, the Institute of Heat Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) hosted the 2nd edition of the nationwide Summer School of Nuclear Energy. The event was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, with its main theme focusing on the nuclear fuel cycle.
WUT projects awarded SONATINA grants

Two researchers from Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) are among the laureates of the 10th edition of the SONATINA competition, organized by the National Science Centre (NCN). Together, they received over PLN 1.5 million to implement their research projects. The competition is targeted at early-career researchers starting their independent scientific paths. In this year's edition, funding totalling over PLN 60 million was awarded to 76 projects.
BIO-PIX: development of next-generation photonic biosensors

Warsaw University of Technology has secured nearly PLN 1 million in funding from the National Science Centre (NCN) under the OPUS competition to implement the research project "BIO-PIX: Biosensing with Photonic Integrated Circuits for Model Biomarker Detection in Inflammatory Pathways." By combining expertise in integrated photonics, fabrication technology, and molecular chemistry, the team aims to develop a new generation of highly sensitive photonic biosensors.
WUT students' UAVs at the SUAS competition in the USA

Members of two student research groups from Warsaw University of Technology—the Robotics Student Research Group (KNR) and the Absolute Edge Student Research Group—are preparing custom-designed unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to participate in the international Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) competition in the United States. Both teams will represent our University, presenting distinct engineering approaches and their respective technological concepts to complete the competition tasks.

SAE AeroDesign’s impressions after the Air Cargo Challenge in Stuttgart

Students from the SAE AeroDesign Student Research Group took part in the Air Cargo Challenge, an international aeronautical engineering competition held this time in Stuttgart. Their task was to build an aircraft capable of carrying the heaviest possible payload within a specified time. Our team achieved the best result in the group's history at this competition and returned richer in valuable experience.
M-BARC: an innovative platform for cell and particle analysis

Researchers from Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) are participating in M-BARC (Microlaser acoustic sensors for mechanical barcoding of cells and particles), an international project. It aims to develop the world's first universal, non-invasive, and label-free platform for the mechanical barcoding of objects.

For the fourth consecutive year, students and academic staff from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology have created a unique architectural installation at the Royal Łazienki Museum. This year's project, the Pavilion of Experiment, is open to visitors in the Garden by the Hermitage until the end of September.
WUT students build ground station for receiving satellite data

Students from the Antenna Design Student Research Group at the Warsaw University of Technology have designed and built their own ground station for receiving data from satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). The project was carried out with funding awarded through the Rector's grants programme for student research groups for the 2025/2026 academic year. The group received nearly PLN 47,000 to build the station under the project entitled Adaptive Beamforming Antenna Array for Receiving Signals from Low Earth Orbit Satellites in the L-band.
ESA centre in Poland opens new opportunities for WUT researchers

The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the establishment of a new ESA Centre in Warsaw. The Centre's thematic focus aligns with the Civil Security Hub Poland project, co-developed by researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology as part of ESA's Space Resilience Nodes initiative. The initiative aims to support the deployment of innovative satellite-based solutions for emergency response, civil protection and crisis management.

This is precisely the challenge being tackled by researchers from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at the Warsaw University of Technology and the Institute of Optoelectronics at the Military University of Technology, who have launched the project ”TeraLink – A terahertz wireless link for ultra-fast data transmission.”
WUT students reach the finals of a robotics competition in Shenzhen

Representatives of the Humanoid Student Research Group advanced to the final stage of the international humanoid robot competition organised by EngineAI. The Polish team, Brave Mind Fighters, finished fourth among the 32 best teams selected from 75 groups from around the world. This is one of the best results ever achieved by Polish student teams in this discipline and a testament to the high quality of engineering education at the Warsaw University of Technology.
Liquid crystal under dual nanocontrol

A research team including physicists from the Warsaw University of Technology has demonstrated a new method for controlling structural colours in blue-phase liquid crystals. The researchers achieved this by combining nanoparticles with specially designed alignment layers. Their findings have been published in ACS Nano.
ENHANCE Testbed – WUT students take part in the energy transition

Since February this year, the ENHANCE Testbed project has been underway, offering students the opportunity to develop strategies for the energy transition. As part of the project, they are considering the construction of small modular reactors (SMRs) in a selected area, analysing the technical, legal, regulatory, and social aspects of this solution.
A new generation of photosensitizers for photodynamic cancer therapy

Krzysztof Durka, PhD, from the Faculty of Chemistry at WUT, will lead a project aimed at developing a new generation of photosensitizers for photodynamic cancer therapy. The project is being carried out by a consortium with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, in cooperation with Marta Grodzik, PhD, associate professor at the Department of Nanobiotechnology of the Institute of Biology.

The Syntax Terror and Advanced Persistent Thinkers teams secured second and third place, respectively, in the final of the inaugural CISPA European Cybersecurity & AI Hackathon Championship, held in Saarbrücken and St. Ingbert, Germany. The championship brought together 18 teams that had qualified through regional competitions held across Europe. In the Polish qualifying round in Warsaw, 30 teams competed, with only two advancing to the grand final—both representing the Warsaw University of Technology. Both teams were made up of WUT students, doctoral students, and graduates.
Cardiac early warning system

The statistics are alarming — approximately 1.2 million people in Poland are living with heart failure, and forecasts indicate a further increase in the incidence of this condition. It represents a major clinical, social, and economic challenge. A team of researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology and the University of Łódź will soon begin work on a device designed to support regular, accurate, and patient-friendly diagnostics, providing assistance to both patients and physicians.
“The BEST Way Forward” – International programme launches at WUT

How can complex research be presented in just a few minutes and without the aid of scientific props? This is the challenge faced by participants in the Three Minute Thesis® (3MT®) competition. This year, the competition will be held at the Warsaw University of Technology for the third time, but for the first time in an expanded format, jointly organized with the Medical University of Warsaw. The agreement to this effect was signed by Prof. Mariusz Malinowski, Vice-Rector for Research at the Warsaw University of Technology, and Prof. Marcin Sobczak, Vice-Rector for Research and Technology Transfer at the Medical University of Warsaw.
Smart streetlights on the WUT Campus

New smart streetlights equipped with IoT sensors have been installed on the main campus of the Warsaw University of Technology. In addition to illuminating the surrounding area, they collect and present data on air quality and noise levels, while intelligently controlling lighting intensity to help reduce light pollution. Both the visual design and the technical concept of the streetlights were developed by WUT experts.
CERN Director-General visits Warsaw University of Technology

Profesor Mark Thomson, visited the Warsaw University of Technology, where he met with the university's leadership and researchers. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss ongoing collaboration and future ambitious scientific initiatives. WUT researchers have been conducting research at CERN and contributing to its projects for many years.
Mars Rover Test Field opens in Józefosław

On 26 June, the CENAGIS research centre of the Warsaw University of Technology in Józefosław officially inaugurated its Mars Rover Test Field. The dedicated testing facility, built from carefully selected aggregates, enables rovers and drones to be tested under conditions closely resembling the Martian surface.
