Fantastic performance from our students at Carolo-Cup 2020
The second place overall and three runner-up spots in individual events; this is how the Robotics Student Research Group (operating at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering) performed in the Carolo-Cup International Competition at Braunschweig, Germany (February 10–11, 2020).
This is a prestigious event for student teams involved in designing small-scale autonomous cars. The contestants were presented with two challenges: Free Drive and Parking and Obstacle Evasion Course. Scored events included presentation of the applied solutions and the score achieved for this would count towards the overall ranking.
The students of the Warsaw University of Technology showed the latest model of their Selfie vehicle in the competition. And they gave an excellent performance, coming as the runners-up in both the Free Drive and Parking and the Obstacle Evasion Course event. Their presentation also placed them second. That performance put them in the second place overall.
“We felt we were well prepared both before the trip and during the on-site testing but we are genuinely overwhelmed by what we have achieved!” say the thrilled students.
There are great reasons to celebrate indeed. That was the third and by far the most successful appearance of the Robotics Student Research Group in Carolo-Cup. Last year, our students finished in the sixth place overall and in the third place in the Free
Drive and Parking event and they placed seventh in the overall scoring in their debut two years ago.
In this year’s competition, the Robotics Student Research Group and the Warsaw University of Technology were represented by: Krzysztof Gawin, Mateusz Grudzień, Michał Jarzyński, Michał Kiełczykowski, Marek Knosala, Paweł Kotiuk, Maciej Krasa, Mateusz Marczuk, Piotr Mikuła, Rafał Litka, Igor Pieniek, Mateusz Szczygielski and Dawid Urbański.
The Selfie project is funded under the “The Best of the Best! 4.0” Programme with the participation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the European Funds.
