An international research project ANGeLiC

The projects of our four students were distinguished in this year’s edition of the competition "Design Educates Awards", which is a prestigious international competition aimed at promoting value-driven architecture. The distinguished designs were created by: Tomasz Szenajch, Aleksandra Snopkowska, Przemysław Sasin and Agnieszka Wardzińska.

Next to the Hermitage building in the premises of the Łazienki Królewskie Museum, the Community Pavilion was erected – created by teachers and students of the WUT Faculty of Architecture under the initiative ”Stawiamy_” (We Erect).

CitCom.ai is an advanced test and experimentation platform designed to foster the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI and robotics technologies in urban environments and communities. The initiative promotes close cooperation among research institutions, local authorities, and industry partners to establish real-life conditions for validating AI-driven digital solutions.

Professor Artur Kasprzak is this year’s winner of the prestigious distinction - 2025 Rising Star in Organic & Inorganic Chemistry - awarded by the American Chemical Society (ACS). This distinction is awarded annually to young researchers who do breakthrough research in the field of chemistry and who stand out through their extraordinary scientific activity and high quality academic achievements.

During a thrilling grand final of the competition Future Energy Challenge 2025, our students won by beating the best teams from, among others, Taiwan, India or USA. The team comprises students from student research associations DREN and PEPA RG operating at the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The substantiative supervisors of the team were Krzysztof Kalinowski, MA, and Professor Jacek Rąbkowski. 

Nina Dobroczyńska, Emiliya Skipar and Julian Hendigery from the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Architecture (WAPW) created a project of a model school resistant to earthquakes in challenging Himalayan conditions. A requirement of the Nepal School Project competition was the use of natural materials and designing the facility in line with the environment. Our students won the main prize in the competition.

The OrbitWUT team, composed of students from Warsaw University of Technology, received the prestigious ArianeGroup Award in the Student Aerospace Challenge 2024/25. The competition, organized by the Astronaut Club Européen in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA), ArianeGroup, and Dassault Aviation, brought together teams from leading technical universities across Europe.

Professor Mariusz Zdrojek and Anna Wróblewska, PhD, from the Faculty of Physics at Warsaw University of Technology are taking part in a research project aimed at developing innovative materials for passive heating and cooling of buildings, drawing inspiration from nature. The research team will investigate how black butterflies and spiders absorb light, while white insects reflect it – all in pursuit of better thermal management in buildings.

Cezary Kraśkiewicz, PhD, and Prof. Artur Zbiciak led two major BRIK (Railway Innovation Research and Development) projects at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). These initiatives resulted in the development of prototype technologies aimed at reducing noise and vibrations caused by railway traffic. In January 2025, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. signed perpetual license agreements for the use of these solutions, marking a milestone in their practical implementation.

Tailoring rural development and quality of life to the specific needs and potential of individual regions – this is the main objective of the Smart Villages Plus project, led by the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology. The initiative presents not only an opportunity for the revitalisation of rural areas, but more importantly, for their sustainable and integrated development through the innovative application of technological and scientific resources.

Professor Kamila Sałasińska, from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology, was among 10 researchers from Poland invited to participate in the event "Visit of the Polish Young Scientists", held at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra on 24–26 June 2025.

Quantum technologies are one of the key areas of interest for researchers and students from the Faculty of Physics at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). Supporting education in this field is a newly developed QUBIT workstation – a physical platform for working with qubits, the fundamental units of quantum information. This advanced infrastructure was created in partnership with SONOVERO R&D, the developer of AIQLAB and a strong proponent of integrating science with industry.

Natalia Dominiak and Karolina Skalska from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering represented Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) in the final of the national "Become an Ambassador" competition, organized by the Leopolda Wild Foundation in collaboration with the Poland in Silicon Valley Centre. Karolina Skalska was named the overall winner of the competition. The initiative aimed to inspire young women to engage in economic diplomacy and promote Poland internationally, particularly in the context of Polish–American relations and the development of innovation.

The materials were developed by researchers from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Warsaw University of Technology, under the leadership of Professor Janusz Lewiński. The simplicity of the synthesis process combined with the unique optoelectronic properties of these compounds makes them highly promising candidates for practical applications in optoelectronic devices.

Can hops – widely known as a key ingredient in beer – serve as the foundation for advanced therapeutic preparations? A team of researchers from Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), led by Jan Krzysztoforski, PhD, and the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM), will seek the answer through a pioneering interdisciplinary project.

A self-designed and hand-built concrete canoe, dozens of hours of testing, engineering challenges, and sporting excitement – a team of students from the Warsaw University of Technology took part in the international Kraków Concrete Canoe Challenge, placing 6th in every competition category.

Kornel Wolski, PhD, from the Institute of Control and Industrial Electronics at Warsaw University of Technology’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering (WUT), has received a distinction in the ABB award competition for his doctoral dissertation. The competition, now in its 21st year, recognises outstanding BSc, MSc, and PhD theses aligned with the research scope of the ABB Centre.

The first stage of recruitment – registration in the IRK system – is open from 1 July to 5 August. 

Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) has achieved a global ranking of 487^th in the prestigious QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) — securing the third-highest position among Polish institutions. This represents a significant rise of 42 places from the previous year and marks WUT's highest-ever position in the history of this ranking.

WUT has secured the 1089^th position globally, 386^th in Europe, and 9^th among Polish institutions in the latest Best Global Universities ranking by US News & World Report.

The EKODEMIK project, developed by students from the Climate Crisis Architecture Research Group (KNAKK) at the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) Faculty of Architecture, is a comprehensive concept for transforming the student dormitory complex at Narutowicza Square. In late May, a meeting was held at the "Akademik" dormitory (DS "Akademik"), where the project authors presented it to WUT administration representatives.

The Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) has established a formal cooperation agreement with the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency (Kcarbon) – a specialized research institution focusing on advanced carbon materials, particularly composites and polymer-based nanomaterials.

The Enactus WUT team triumphed at the Enactus Poland National Competition with their project MedWave, securing a place in the Enactus World Cup global finals in Bangkok. This September, they will compete against 37 international teams.
