Projects from PW received funding in the M-ERA.NET program

In mid-February, the ranking list for the M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2024 was published. The list includes two projects from PW, involving researchers from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering: “BAS4WIND - Basalt Fiber Composites for Sustainable Wind Energy” and “BioCAN - Development of bio-based polymers with covalently adaptable networks for recyclable natural fibre reinforced composite production”. Both projects have received funding under the program.
HepaSwitch – young researchers on the path to a new liver cancer therapy

A team of students from four Warsaw universities – Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) (leading the consortium), University of Warsaw, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and Medical University of Warsaw – is working on an innovative targeted therapy for liver cancer. As part of the HEPASWITCH_IGEM2025 project, they aim to develop a groundbreaking solution that could revolutionise treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
WUT expert co-authors report on voluntary contributions to ZUS

Tomasz Lasocki, PhD, from the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences at the Warsaw University of Technology and Janina Petelczyc, PhD, from the Department of Social Insurance at the Warsaw School of Economics have co-authored a report on self-employment in Poland. The report, titled "Voluntary Poverty – The Consequences of Voluntary ZUS for the Self-Employed", presents research findings on the financial situation of Polish entrepreneurs in Poland.

In February, the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at WUT hosted a ceremonial gala summarising two competitions organized by the Polish Society of Mechanical Engineers and Technicians (SIMP). During the event, awards were presented to the winners of the 24th Competition for the best mechanical diploma thesis, prepared and defended at a Polish technical university during the 2023/2024 academic year, as well as the 18th Technician-Graduate Competition for graduates of vocational education schools in the 2023/2024 school year.
WUT students with a grant for the construction of a power plant prototype

The KNE Power Engineers Student Research Group, operating at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at WUT, has won a grant in the competition organized by the BOŚ Foundation. The project involves the development of a laboratory prototype of a wave energy power plant, which aims to convert the mechanical energy of ocean waves into electrical energy.
Meet Izydor – a manipulator for collecting bulk material samples from vehicles

As part of WUT’s collaboration with industry, a team of researchers from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering developed and implemented an innovative device called IZYDOR, designed for collecting incremental samples of bulk materials from transport vehicles. The research team at WUT was led by Marek Wojtyra, PhD, associate professor. The project was carried out in cooperation with the client, CEREUS WENA from Toruń.

A team from the Students’ Space Association wants to check if PV panels covered with a special material may change radiation present in space into electric power needed to complete missions more efficiently. The EVE CURIE experiment is implemented as part of a German Swedish programme REXUS/BEXUS, co-organised by the European Space Agency.
Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology in quantum technology race

Agreement for the future of hydrogen and synthetic fuels

On January 29, 2025, an agreement was signed to cooperate on the development of hydrogen technologies and synthetic fuels. The document was signed by representatives from ORLEN S.A., the Warsaw University of Technology Płock Branch, and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. On behalf of WUT, the agreement was signed by Prof. Renata Walczak, Vice-Rector for the Płock Branch of WUT.

WUT: a threefold increase in revenues from IP commercialization

Revenues from the commercialization of intellectual property belonging to employees of the Warsaw University of Technology increased from 600,000 PLN net in 2023 to over 2.1 million PLN net in the recently concluded year 2024. This growth is the result of a greater focus on our university's third mission.

The Ptolemais Project: 'Our Man' on a mission in Libya

Between December 6 and 15, 2024, our doctoral student, Paweł Czernic, from the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, participated in a research mission at the Ptolemais site in Libya. Ptolemais is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient cities. The project includes fieldwork such as geophysical surveys, terrain mapping, and excavation works.

The promotion of research and innovation in the production and use of renewable fuels was the central focus of the agreement signed on December 17, 2024, by Prof. Piotr Przybyłowicz, Dean of the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering, and Czesław Siekierski, PhD, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
