How to improve water quality in Poland?

September saw the launch of the WaterSense - ASIR project, which aims to develop and market an innovative system for monitoring water quality in Poland. Scientists from 3 units of the WUT are involved in it: Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Chemistry and CEZAMAT (Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies). The project will last until 2027 and may revolutionise water quality monitoring in Poland and Europe.
Paweł Czernic from the WUT with a unique mission in Kuwait

A Kuwaiti-Polish archaeological mission while working in the Subija desert in northern Kuwait discovered a site that was most likely a courtyard or workshop for the production of jewellery and shell ornaments. The discovery dates to the Ubay period in Mesopotamia around 7700 years ago. Paweł Czernic, a PhD student at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at the Warsaw University of Technology, is a member of this fascinating mission.
Effects of cooperation between WUT and Ukrainian universities

Nearly 500 representatives of Kyiv and Lviv University of Technology, including almost 300 on-site, took part in activities organised by the Warsaw University of Technology as part of the National Academic Exchange Agency's ‘Solidarity with Ukraine - European Universities’ programme.

Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China Visits WUT

On Friday, November 22, the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) hosted a meeting focused on collaboration in scientific research and dual degree programs between Polish and Chinese universities. The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Minister Lin Xin of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and Prof. Mariusz Malinowski, WUT's Vice-Rector for Research. The event also included representatives from the Embassy of China in Warsaw, the China Science and Technology Exchange Center, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, a partner institution of WUT.
An app designed for planning train journeys

The new app, PlaceFinder, developed by two students, makes it easier to find a seat on a train, even when PKP Intercity (Polish State Railways Intercity) reports no available seats. The app searches for available seats at different stages of the journey, combining them into a single, cohesive travel plan. The creators of the tool are Kazimierz Lipski, a WUT student, and Weronika Pieniak from the WIT Academy.
Researchers from WUT are developing the CellSphereMultiFlow tool

As part of a grant for a prototype, researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology aim to develop the CellSphereMultiFlow tool, which will enable the replication of key features of human organs in laboratory conditions, along with a description of the methodology for its use. The proposed tool will make it possible to achieve a level of advancement in vitro research that is unattainable using currently known cell culture methods.
A delegation from WUT visiting the United States

Representatives of the Warsaw University of Technology took part in the Symposium and Congress of the Council of Polish Engineers in North America and visited Silicon Valley. The trip was part of our university's collaboration with the Poland in Silicon Valley Center for Science, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.

Prof. Adam Proń from the Faculty of Chemistry was honored for his achievements in scientific activity, while Aniela Czudek, PhD, from the Faculty of Physics, and Bartłomiej Przybyszewski, PhD, from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering were recognized for their doctoral dissertations.
Prof. Mariusz Malinowski takes on a new role in ENHANCE

During the meeting of the Board of Directors of the ENHANCE Alliance, held on the 6th of November 2024 at the Delft University of Technology, Professor Mariusz Malinowski, Warsaw University of Technology Vice-Rector for Research, was elected Co-Chair. Professor Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology, was elected Chair. This Polish management in the ENHANCE Board of Directors is a unique solution in the programme ”European universities”.
"Żerań of the future" in the WUT students’ project

A modern technological park with innovative architecture using concrete prefabricates – this is how students of the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil Engineering imagine a new development of post-industrial areas at the port in Warsaw’s Żerań. The project "Heart of Żerań" combines modern technologies, sustainable development and aesthetics; it was prepared by: Michał Sierżęga and Jakub Kaczmarczyk from the Faculty of Architecture, and Mariusz Majchrzak and Marek Koryciński from the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Economic Award of the President of the Republic of Poland for ExoFrame

During the celebration held on the 7th of November at the Łańcut Castle, prizes were awarded in the 22nd edition of the Economic Award of the President of the Republic of Poland. The winners include the company ExoFrame from the Warsaw University of Technology, which was the winner in the special category Research & Development. The award was received by board president Adam Zawadzki from the hands of President Andrzej Duda.

Researcher from WUT in a team developing a bionic hand prosthesis

Krzysztof Mianowski, PhD, participated in a project with a team of researchers from Wrocław University of Science and Technology to create a bionic hand prosthesis aimed at supporting individuals with forearm amputations. The device is almost ready, with patient trials expected to start by the end of this year. Wrocław team’s work is led by Andrzej Wołczowski, PhD.

The most dramatic situation is in the Valencia region – a place particularly dear to us, as the local Polytechnic University (UPV), like ours, is part of the European university consortium ENHANCE. Lost leaving the metro? Newly launched app by WUT team could help

Three years is enough time to get a degree, learn a new language, see the world. It’s also enough to create an application that will help Warsaw residents and people who do not know the city or have mobility issues to find the optimal route in the metro. Such a plan has just been implemented in the “Smart City” Interfaculty Scientific Club.

Be like Indiana Jones? WUT scientists on archaeological mission

Prof. Robert Głębocki and Paweł Waligóra from the Aviation and Space Research Centre (OBLot) at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology took part in an international archaeological expedition to the islands of Rab and Lukovac in Croatia. During their stay, they used their knowledge and skills related to drones and LIDAR technology.
Prof. Janusz Lewiński with the Polish Nobel Prize

The scientist from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology and the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences received a Prize from the Foundation for Polish Science in the field of chemical and materials sciences for the development of mechanochemical methods for the synthesis of perovskites to improve their photovoltaic properties.
