How can construction waste be transformed into high-value materials that can return to the market? This is the goal set by a research team led by Natalia Gasik-Kowalska, MSc, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Petrochemistry, which is conducting research on the development of new formulations of construction mortars in which traditional raw materials are replaced with recycled components.

A team led by Prof. Robert Nowak is implementing the DARTS-PL project, which aims to develop a national database of test scenarios for autonomous vehicles (AVs), taking into account road conditions characteristic of Poland. The project is being carried out by a research consortium consisting of the Motor Transport Institute (Leader) and the Institute of Computer Science at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology as the leading academic partner.

The "Huber Squad" team, consisting of Łukasz Latoch, Jakub Kuliberda, and Mateusz Kuczek, won 3^rd place in the final of the 4^th edition of the nationwide engineering competition Symkaton 4.0. Additionally, the team also secured a special award for the best use of computer simulation software. All team members are students at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology.

On 7 October 2025, the official opening of the Centre for Credible Artificial Intelligence (CWSI) – a research unit whose mission is to develop methods enabling the creation of understandable, verifiable, and controllable AI systems – took place in the Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology. The event gathered representatives of the scientific community, strategic partners, friends of the university, and guests from Poland and abroad.

Professor Ryszard Piramidowicz from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology at the Warsaw University of Technology has become a laureate of the prestigious Photonics100 distinction awarded by Electro Optics magazine. The award recognizes leaders who set the directions for the development of photonics – innovators, visionaries, and exceptional personalities in the modern photonics R&D world.

Józef Koszewski, Zuzanna Kluczek, and Łukasz Cieszyński from the Kyrion Student Research Group at the Warsaw University of Technology have established cooperation with scientists from the Mineral-X group at Stanford University. Our students became involved in developing an algorithm used in the analysis of critical materials. And it all started with… a single interview.

As many as 83 representatives of the Warsaw University of Technology have been included in this year's edition of the World's TOP 2% Scientists ranking. This is an improvement over last year's result, when 77 of our researchers were listed. The ranking, prepared by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, showcases scientists whose work has the greatest impact on the development of global science.

Kerem Altun from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology completed a two-month internship at the CERN research centre. He worked in the SCE-FS (Site and Civil Engineering – Future Studies) team, which is responsible for planning and overseeing all future particle colliders.

The WaterSense – ASIR project, aimed at developing and introducing to the market an innovative water quality monitoring system in Poland, has been awarded the runner-up title in the national stage of the international James Dyson Award competition. Thanks to its innovative technology, the system enables continuous, precise, and fully automated water quality monitoring. 

Dr Marta Mazurkiewicz-Pawlicka from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering has just returned from a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at RWTH Aachen University. She worked there under the supervision of Prof. Anna Mechler – an expert in electrochemistry and the head of the Electrochemical Reaction Engineering Chair, operating within the Aachener Verfahrenstechnik research institute. The ERT team investigates electrochemical processes occurring in fuel cells (conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy) and in electrolytic processes (conversion of electrical energy into chemical energy). 

Julia Pigłowska and Jeremi Kozakiewicz from the Student Research Group of Spatial Management at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Warsaw University of Technology, took part in archaeological excavations in Sacsayhuamán, Peru, conducted by the Centre for Andean Studies of the University of Warsaw.

Bartłomiej Łuszczuk from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology was the only student from Poland to be awarded a scholarship in the Amgen Scholars Programme. It is a global summer research internship programme for students that provides hands-on research experience in the fields of biology, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences at leading scientific institutions - with only 2% of applicants being accepted.

How can used plastics and waste oils be transformed into something that not only replaces fossil fuels but also contributes to environmental protection? Sabina Wilkanowicz, PhD, from the Warsaw University of Technology Branch in Płock, has been seeking answers to this question. Together with her team, she has been conducting research for several years on the use of electrospinning nanotechnology in recycling and biofuel production.

The 2025 season was a test of design and teamwork for WUT Racing. The new WUT-6 race car debuted at three Formula Student events – in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Austria – and the races confirmed that the adopted technical solutions work under real track conditions.

This season was another stage of development and a test of a new design for the Proton Dynamic team. Students from the Warsaw University of Technology competed with their PD 2.5 race car in two prestigious Formula Student rounds: in Austria and in the Czech Republic.

Aleksander Pizoń and Zofia Nowicka from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology took part in the Erasmus+ programme. Thanks to this, they spent several months studying at Université Paris-Saclay and experiencing life in Paris.

Two teams from the Warsaw University of Technology made it into the top ten of the European Rover Challenge 2025. SKA Robotics from the Students' Space Association took 8^th place, while the KNR Rover Team from the Robotics Student Research Group (KNR) placed 9^th and additionally won the Probing task.

Although we usually associate earthworms with gardens and soil aeration, they can also play an important role in environmental remediation. Some species of these invertebrates are capable of cleaning up soils contaminated with crude oil and its derivatives.

Artur Werys, student of the WUT Faculty of Physics, is spending his holidays in an unusual way – he’s working on a prototype of the FoCal-H detector, which will be part of the ALICE experiment. Arthur’s stay is taking place thanks to the CERN programme SPARC (Student Engineering Internships) 2025. Its participants complete internships under the supervision of experts and develop solutions that then support CERN’s research equipment.
