Formal session of the Senate to celebrate the WUT Day
We teach remotely, we reduce face-to-face contacts, we do not organize offline events, but one thing has not changed: we do celebrate the Warsaw University of Technology Day. On November 15, 1915, the first academic year with Polish as the language of instruction started at our University. To commemorate this event, on November 16, 2020 we met online at a formal session of the WUT Senate.
Prof. dr hab. inż. Krzysztof Zaremba, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology, emphasized the special character of this event. In his speech, he presented the most important events in the history of our University and expressed his best wishes to the whole WUT community. “May unwavering belief in the power of dreams be the strength of the students, employees and alumni of the Warsaw University of Technology,” the Rector said.

During the formal session of the Senate, the winners of the WUT Medal and the Young Scientist Medal were announced.

Cooperation with Siemens
The formal session of the Senate also provided an opportunity to summarize the 25th Competition for the Siemens Prize for scientists and research teams, 10th competition for the Siemens Prize for Automation and Robotics Graduates and 4th Competition for the Siemens Prize for Electronic Engineering Graduates. The winners were announced in September. The winners include representatives of our University.
“We are grateful for this cooperation,” said Dominika Bettman, President of the Management Board of Siemens Polska.
She also pointed out that over 1,000 entries had been submitted for the competition, and over 100 prizes had been awarded.
We remember
The WUT Day is an opportunity to remember those representatives of our Community who have passed away and to thank them symbolically for their contribution to the development of the University.
Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba said that on November 12 representatives of the Senate Committee for History and Tradition, the Association of Alumni and Friends of the Warsaw University of Technology and the Warsaw University of Technology Students’ Union had laid flowers at the plaques in the Main Building, including the one “In Tribute to the Employees, Students and Alumni of the Warsaw University of Technology Killed for the Free Poland”. The participants of the formal session of the Senate watched a film documenting this solemn moment.
“I hope in one year’s time we will meet face to face,” said Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba, WUT Rector, summing up the event.
The project is part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of Poland regaining independence and the rebirth of Polish statehood.
