“The main objective of the project is knowledge transfer; I will be taking part in joint projects carried out by mathematicians and Data Science experts of Iowa State University, Ames,” explains Anna Zamojska-Dzienio, Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. “This type of collaboration is very well developed there.”

The researcher of the Warsaw University of Technology is an expert in advanced lattice theory and, more generally, ordered structures. This is what the Americans were looking for. “In return, I want to gain experience in handling projects and solving problems which are relevant to scientists dealing with Data Science,” says Anna Zamojska-Dzienio, Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. “My hope is that this knowledge will help me apply algebraic methods to the Data Science teaching practice at my Faculty.”

“My deepest thanks and appreciation go to Professor Jonathan Smith of Iowa State University for drawing my attention to that scholarship program and encouraging me to apply,” says our Fulbright Senior Award winner. “Professor Smith has been a frequent visitor to my Faculty, including as a Fulbright Scholar in the winter semester of the academic year 2012/2013.”

Anna Zamojska-Dzienio, Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. will spend 9 months (from August 2020 to May 2021, i.e. a full U.S. academic year) at Iowa State University. This is the maximum period of the scholarship. “I am taking my family with me as the scholarship program allows me to do so by providing funding for our stay,” the WUT researcher remarks. “I think this will be a great experience for us all.”

The Fulbright Senior Award won by Anna Zamojska-Dzienio, Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. is a scholarship program for academic researchers or research and teaching faculty members of Polish scientific units to support projects (3 to 9-month long) in the United States.

The Fulbright Program is the largest academic and cultural exchange program of the United States. For over 70 years, it has supported cooperation for the development of science, culture, and interpersonal, as well as inter-institutional relations between the United States and over 160 countries. Poland joined the Program as early as 1959 as the first country in Eastern Europe. The Program is a two-way street, funding scientific visits of Polish students, researchers and teaching staff to the United States to support their promising projects and arranging for U.S. students, lecturers and experts to come to Poland for a scientific stay.
