Inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year

Is there a month more associated with universities than October? As it approaches, we return to our regular rhythm of learning and work. On October 1 at 10:00 a.m., in the Main Building, we will officially open a new academic year — a special one, as it marks the beginning of the 200^th anniversary celebrations of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The 4^th of January 1826 – the day the Preparatory School for the Polytechnic Institute was opened – is considered the founding date of technical education in Warsaw and the beginning of the Warsaw University of Technology. We begin celebrating this milestone now — at the very start of the 2025/2026 academic year. The jubilee will last through the end of 2026.

The "father" and driving force behind the establishment of the Preparatory School was Stanisław Staszic. That is why the first lecture of the new academic year will be closely related to this figure.
Professor Dagmara Mirowska-Guzel will deliver a lecture titled "Stanisław Staszic: On the Need for Elites". 

We will listen to it together — students, PhD candidates, staff members, and invited guests.
The host of the inauguration will be Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology, who — as tradition dictates — will deliver the first speech of the new academic year.

Next, we will hear ceremonial addresses, and eagerly await the matriculation ceremony — the official welcome of new students into our academic community. Representatives from all WUT faculties will take the academic oath and receive congratulatory letters from the Rector.

We will also hear from the President of the WUT Students Self-Government and the President of the Doctoral Council.
