The Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT of the Warsaw University of Technology will be part of one of the four European pilot lines in the field of advanced semiconductor technologies.
The "FAMES – FD-SOI Pilot Line for Applications with embedded non-volatile Memories, RF, 3D integration and PMIC, to ensure European Sovereignty" project aims to launch a pilot line and develop FD-SOI 10 nm and 7 nm technology. This technology is the only one developed entirely in the European Union and is therefore strategic for the development of semiconductor technologies in Europe.
The FAMES project will be implemented in a consortium consisting of leading European research and scientific units: CEA-Leti (consortium leader), Imec, Fraunhofer Institute, Tyndall National Institute, VTT Technical Research Centre, CEZAMAT WUT, Université Catholique de Louvain, Silicon Austria Lab, INP Grenoble, SiNaNo and the University of Granada.
– The fact that CEZAMAT WUT has been invited to cooperate, in such an elite group, to the improvement of the FD-SOI technology which has been recognised as the most promising European technology and included in the largest project in the history of the European Commission (the European Chips Act), proves the international recognition of the competence and position that has been achieved during several years of CEZAMAT WUT’s operation – commented Prof. Romuald Beck, Plenipotentiary for Strategic Projects.
The Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT of the Warsaw University of Technology will be involved in work related to the design of integrated circuits, semiconductor memory technology and the demonstration of their potential in the field of AI and security of integrated circuits. The work will include integrated circuit design and PDK module testing to provide the tools necessary for the design and optimisation of integrated circuit design and technology.
– The FAMES project is an excellent opportunity to use the capabilities of the CEZAMAT WUT laboratories – says Dr Piotr Wiśniewski, Head of the Intelligent Semiconductor Systems Department at SEMINSYS. – We are the only place in Poland with such advanced research capabilities. We have highly specialised staff in design-related processes and we have extensive experience in the production of semiconductor structures and devices that have application potential.
In addition, teams from the Warsaw University of Technology will be involved in work related to the development of technology and testing of non-volatile OxRAM (Oxide-based Resistive RAM) semiconductor memories. The developed memory devices will be used in the designed and manufactured next-generation test chips for AI and hardware security of integrated circuits.
The FAMES project is a unique opportunity to engage in the development of semiconductor technologies in Europe and to increase knowledge and competences not previously available in Poland, as well as to develop and strengthen international cooperation with key research units in the field of semiconductors in Europe.
