Nobel Prize winner in chemistry will give an open lecture at WUT
Professor M. Stanley Whittingham will talk about the role of energy storage in the context of electric economy and climate change. The lecture will take place on 22 November 2022 at 14:15 in the Hall of the Faculty of Physics of the Warsaw University of Technology. Attendance is free of charge.
Professor Whittingham’s lecture entitled ”The Electric Economy and Climate Change: The Critical Role of Energy Storage” will last circa one hour. Then there will be time for questions and discussion. The lecture will be in English.
Professor Whittingham is a chemist who gained world renown in 2019, when he was awarded the most important distinction in the world of science. He (with other scientists) developed the technology of lithium-ion batteries which may be used in laptops, mobile phones and electric cars. It was this area of research he was awarded the Nobel Prize for (jointly with Professor John B. Goodenough and Professor Akira Yoshino).
– It is a rare opportunity to listen to such an outstanding scientist so I am very happy that the Nobel Prize winner has agreed to give a lecture at our University – says Professor Wojciech Wróbel, Dean of the WUT Faculty of Physics. – It is an opportunity not only to understand better the importance of the research done by Professor Whittingham, but also to see his way of thinking and style of work.
– I hope the meeting with the Nobel Prize winner will be an inspiration, especially for my younger colleagues – adds Professor Władysław Wieczorek, Dean of the WUT Faculty of Chemistry.
Professor M. Stanley Whittingham is visiting the Warsaw University of Technology because he has been awarded the title of doctor honoris causa (the ceremony was held on 21 November).
